If anyone has a direct line and a name of someone
helpful at Scan I would be very grateful.
Otherwise; can anyone else quote me for a beefy
Athlon 650 (or 700 by the time I get to order it!)
based system?
Regards & thanks,
Chris.

Before you buy.
Thankyou for pointing out the issue. If the orders were not taken, we would
not be in business!
As a matter of employing the staff, please understand an increasingly
important issue, that is the incoming is so vast, it takes a little time to
re-organise operations to get a majority satisfaction. If our company
philosophy was to avoid all sales calls, we would not exist. However,
various internal systems have been implemented to benefit our customers.
Thease will be apparent within the next few weeks! . Hopefully, you feel
more catered for, in terms of PRICE AND SERVICE.
Please accept my apologies for the delayed response. Your problem will be
dealt with.
In the meantime, should you wish to discuss any issues please feel free to
call me.
You can reach me on 01204 474703 or e-mail meat el...@scan.co.uk
Look forward to receive your response,
Elan Raja
ps see http://www.scan.co.uk/today.htm for a comming AMD deal!

>Has anybody successfully bought eqpt. from Scan?
Yup, me. Ordered Ricoh CD-RW drive for GBP130ish last week and it
arrived next day complete with twenty free CD-Rs. They had a special
offer on.
Which was both impressive AND a bit of a bugger 'cos I live out in the
sticks, was out when they delivered it (heck I didn't think they
REALLY meant next day!) and had to trek over to Tewkesbury to pick the
beastie up.

??? I just looked up prices on their website:
...then rang sales, 01204 47-47-47. I don't bother emailing sales
drones, they're usually too stupid to bother to read their email more
than once a week.
I have no connection with Scan other than as a satisfied customer.
They seem to be fucking quick off the mark to me. Maybe I was just
lucky. A friend of mine later said "oooh you don't want to order from
scan, they're so bad people call them SCAM" but from my experience
they not only gave me a damn good price (and some freebies) but also
got the stuff to me next day! I'll use them again.

As someone pointed out on this ng not a long while ago - if the company
gets your order right once, it's not actually a very good test. It's when
there's a cockup that you really get to see what their customer service is
like....
As for Scan, basically, if they get it right (which they do most of the
time, it seems), they're great - v.quick and efficient. But if you have a
problem, as I did last week with a new IBM HD which head-crashed, there's
a bit more of a problem. I spent the /whole/ of Friday and the /whole/ of
Monday trying to get in touch with their returns department (well, in
breaks from working anyway), to no avail. In the end it literally took 20
abortive phone attempts, 5 unanswered emails, a posting to this newsgroup
and a fax before we actually managed to make contact on Tuesday morning.
After that, they were actually pretty quick - I sent the dead drive in on
Tuesday to arrive Wed. lunchtime, and a new replacement arrived on
Thursday morning. This is pretty damn good (though I don't know if they
were making a special effort 'cos they'd pissed me around for 2 days).
So overall, yes, I would go for Scan again, but do bear in mind people's
valid gripes.
Cheers,
Jack (why do hardware vendors seem to hate me?) Enthoven
I've had sufficient difficulties with ordering from Scan that I don't think
I'd want to order from you again unless the price was particularly good,
since the hassle really wasn't worth it.
Your "delivery" firm is a joke. I paid extra for Saturday delivery so I
would be in, and they didn't bother to deliver it, claiming they tried
twice, where it was clear they didn't. I eventually had to get a taxi across
town to the collections depot where I was abused and dealt with rudely by
the staff there.

CCd and posted.
Errrm shouldn`t you have taken that up with the "delivery" firm ?

Absolutely contrary to my experience (and very opposite to my experience
with Dabs). I have never been treated with the utmost courtesy and respect
on my many visits and transactions with Scan.
Interesting e-mail address Peter (ab...@cabal.org.uk)
I assume this is your job and not your hobby ;-)
Kindest regards

Is this what you meant to post??
Opens mouth and falls in with both feet....
Thanks Nigel.
What I meant to say was "I have never been treated with anything but the
utmost courtesy and respect on my many visits and transactions with Scan."
I promise to sit in the corner and write out my lines longhand before
posting in future.

Thats the important bit perhaps - 'visits'. Maybe its easier to ignore
an e-mail or a phone call than a customer on the premises?? I must say
that the few items I have ordered from Scan always arrived promptly and
correctly. The problem getting through to get a returns number was
maddening and Aberdeen to Bolton is not a trip I can justify to return
anything..
Glad that your RMA was dealt with efficently.

Scan ships out around 300 consignments each evening (approx 400 parcels).
Scan has a unique relationship with its courier, Citylink. As with all
couriers delivery problems will always arise, but on AVERAGE we have good
service from citylink, They are usually very reliable. Scan has teamed up
with Citylink and developed an automated system whereby all delivery details
are completed at the time of taking orders. The order reference number,
given at the time of placing the order, is then posted on the website so
the customers can parcel track their order for the following day. It
helps!!! see http://www.scan.co.uk/tracking_idx.htm
Please forward me your citylink consignment, I will chase it up with
citylink, if CS have not already dealt with it.

I want to order an entire PC (to build myself) - Athlon 700,
DVD/CD-RW etc. and a monitor which I don't think you stock, the
Mitsubishi 2020. Could you source this for me so I can order all
the bits from one supplier (i.e. you!)?
Please contact me on 0973 142237.
Thanks,
Chris Margerison.
You mean the CLAN system that anyone can have if they pay citylink.
Wow - Bolton has civilisation?? Never realised that :)
Give us some credit!!
Do you think that I would gloat about a free bit of courier software!!!!
Come on!!
Perhaps you would like to call into Scan and see how Clan 2000 has been
embedded into line 100 and integrated into our stock system, PSO and
website. This is just a little bit more complex! Not a standard Citylink
freeB.
Let me know if you are comming down, it gives me time to hide all the PC's
and get the abacus out :-).

So have I :)
I used to work for a firm that sent a lot of parcels through them, and they
seemed reliable, but they made such a grand cock-up that I'm somewhat less
impressed with them. Friends report similar troubles with Citylink. If an
address is "difficult", they don't bother, and just take it back to base.
If it was possible to get through to people who would actually take note at
Scan, you might hear more about what Citylink get up to. As it is, I guess
once a customer gets a bad delivery, they dump Scan. Remember the Royal Mail
advert - people don't usually complain, they just leave.
> Scan has teamed up with Citylink and developed an automated system whereby

A tracking number doesn't help when they can't be bothered to deliver it
properly. I *knew* where the goods were, sat in the back of a van whilst
somebody didn't bother to deliver it.
BTW, would you like a photograph of the package? The goods weren't actually
damaged, but there's a sodding great hole in the corner of the box where
it's either been dropped, or something heavy was dropped on it.
> Please forward me your citylink consignment, I will chase it up with

CS have done nothing AFAICS, despite several phone calls. I shouldn't need
to complain on Usenet to get results.
