Am I going mad?

Dabs have sent me a Socket FM2 processor, despite me using their filter to select socket AM3 processors. This processor does not seem to fit into the socket AM3 motherboard I've purchased.

The board is Asus M5A78L LE: http://bit.ly/15prnFg
The chip is: http://bit.ly/15prssk

I've gone to fit it tonight and found the socket on the board has got sockets blanked off which are present on the processor!

I'm not being silly, they aren't compatible are they?

Regards
Jon

Dell guide to un-installing an AM2 processor:

Open case.
Undo heatsink screws.
Raise heatsink on built in hinges.
Use hammer and chisel to remove CPU from heatsink as it has just been
forcibly pulled out of a closed zif socket and is stuck to the heatsink
with dried out thermal paste. The heatsink hinges make it impossible to
free the CPU before raising the heatsink.
Check for CPU legs left in zif socket and remove if found.

Nope they aren't. Its like trying to stick a square peg in a round hole.

Thanks chaps, I knew the answer really, just needed that little bit of confirmation as I haven't built for about 2 years.

I'm also outside the Dabs refund window so I feel a fight coming on. I've taken a screen capture which clearly shows this processor still listed in the AM3+ filter!

Thanks
Jon

I suppose it was easy to miss the fact it says FM2 in the description, when
you were relying on dabs filter system to only show AM3+ compatible CPUs.
Heck that could of happened to me!
