I just sold a Gigabyte motherboard on here for £38. If you only have
PC100/133 memory, Elite's K7S5A board is available new for not a lot
more.
You should easily get an AGP graphics card for £40 or so.
Sorry to stick my oar in, but it does seem a pity to go buying things
like PCI graphics cards...
Odie
Its ok odie i like good advice but i really have no option but to use a Pci
card, i know its a waste of dosh but if i had any other choice i would
rather dump this crappy mobo and stick an abit or nvidia mobo or something
in.
Thanks anyway
Martin
If you absolutely must get a PCI card (and with the K7S5A at £40 odd at
tekheads.co.uk you have little reason to!) then you can get a Geforce 2mx
which I know had PCI variants. However, these are rare and you can expect
to pay a significant premium for them.
In the long run, it just isn't worth it. Keep the crappy mobo if £40 for a
brand new mobo is more than you can afford and save up!
Took me three months of patient waiting, but I had much the same dilemma,
and I can't say I regret skipping over a MX and buying a nice Geforce 2 GTS
AND mobo for £20 more than I was going to pay for just the PCI gfx card
alone :-)

Well the reason being why i can't use a new mobo is the Pc i am talking
about is one from sh*tty time i bought a year ago :o(
It has a preinstalled OEM version of WinME which i like BTW and if i install
a new mobo i will loose a lot of the warranty etc plus i only have a
recovery disk and with a new mobo i am not sure if it will work as a lot of
the stuff is on a hidden partition in my HD. I feel like sending it back and
taking a loss on what i have paid them already and tell them to stuff it,
but i am not sure of my rights with HP as i entered a HP agreement with
them and if i send it back i do not want a bad credit rating either.
I have seen the geforce2MX going for around £45 but i have been told its a
real crap card so i was hoping to get a geforce2MX400 or something better no
matter how slight it is. Now if you can install a Mobo and buy an agp
graphic card for less than £45 LMK as i will surely have it .
I want a PCI card i would just like a few sensible answers and not the one
which i already know and that is buy a Mobo with a AGP slot. Does anyone
have a url or know of a cheap alternative to a geforce2MX please.
Thanks
Martin
There seem to be a lot of people in your situation, I'm doing a bit of
research for 2 friends of mine who have the same problem ;-p
I have no experience of the following people:
http://www.pcupgrade.co.uk/productsDisplay.asp?keywords=PCI+Video+Cards
...but they seem to be selling a Geforce 4 pci card!
It's probably a bit over budget (I think the prices are net of VAT), but
they have a selection of other pci cards.
Please let me know how you get on.
Regards,
Chris.
Yup, both the MX420 and the MX440 are available as PCI cards. I wouldnt
usually recommend the MX440's, being that its basically a souped up
GeForce2, but for PCI it cannot be beaten - there is no faster PCI graphics
card.
