I have Mcafee Security Centre installed and broken and I wish to remove it
totally. When I use Add/Remove programs, it fails and I cant remove this
application. There is no uninstall program. It came on my Dell PC with a
60 day trial and I have no disk to reinstall.
Can anyone advise how to remove it.
I was thinking of just removing all the files.
What would I do about registry entries.
Also, There can I find the startup applications so I can stop it tring to
start every time I restart my PC.
Thanks

Remove any autoloads for McAfee by msconfig->startup. Reboot and then Add/Remove.
Preferably run a registry cleaner afterwards; I use Norton Utilities, but there
are many other programs.
If it is similar to McAfee VirusScan Enterprise (and most of the
components are), then various components are started in various ways...
Firstly, back up your system, as the following is dangerous.
Secondly, exit any active McAfee tasks that you can see,
Then in the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Remove McAfeeUpdaterUI, ShStatEXE, and anything that runs from
C:\Program Files\Network Associates (or anywhere else obviously McAfee'ish)
Then in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services
Locate "McAfee Alert Manager" and "McAfee Framework Service", "Network
Associates McShield", and "Network Associates Task Manager". Stop each
of those services, then delete them.
Because security centre has other components that are not present as
McAfee VSE8, there may be other services. Scan through the list and
look at the properties of any services that you are suspicious about,
and then double-click them. Look at the 'Path to executable' to
determine if it is a McAfee product or not. If it is, stop it, click
OK, and then remove the service.
Then you should be able to safely zap the directory in which McAfee is
installed.
