I am having a problem with an Intel D845WNL Socket 478 board. When I press
the power button, the CPU fan starts up etc. and the hard disk spins up,
however, there is no beep from the BIOS, and the monitor does not switch on,
so therefore I can't get any further. I think the board is 'alive' since
if I remove the RAM, it beeps three times to indicate lack of RAM, and if I
remove the video card it beeps the error code.
I have tried replacing RAM, Video Card etc. with no effect.
The rest of the hardware is as follows: P4 1.6GHz Skt 478, 256Mb PC133 CAS2
Crucial (Micron) RAM, Matrox G550 32Mb Video card (also tried old Matrox
Millennium II PCI card), IBM 75GXP 45Gb (although currently trying with
nothing connected except video card, montior and keyboard.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
Al

Nick,
Thanks, but I have got it going now. I had tried 4 different sticks of
good quality RAM - including 2 different Crucial (Micron) PC133 CAS 2 256Mb
with no luck. I decided to give it one last go with an old 64Mb PC133 CAS3
OEM unbranded stick with Hyundai chips. To my huge amazement it worked!
This board must just be ULTRA-picky about its RAM!
Thanks again,
Al
P.S.
There is no jumper to reset the CMOS anymore on this board - there are just
a couple of solder pads where the jumper used to be - tried shorting them
with a pair of pliers though!!
