Hi,

I'm wondering if any of the regular Micromart readers have used a company
called Electra Technologies www.electra-technologies.com
They do training courses for certification in Microsoft, Visual Basic and
C/C++ etc. I am interested in doing one of their MS certification courses
but before parting with my money, was wondering if they're any good?
Any advice/info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Probably couldn't teach you much more than a decent teach yourself book can.
Just no MS certification which in all honesty I don't really value MS
certification...

=====================
I don't know about the MS certification courses but I bought Electra
Technologies' Visual Basic Course.

The course came with a Student's version of the compiler which can be bought
cheaply elsewhere and is sometimes included free with other books. The
course book itself consists of an 86 page tutorial (not very well presented)
and is far from being a complete course. In my opinion you can get far
better value for money especially if you already have access to a compiler.

I would be surprised if the MS courses are any more comprehensive than the
VB course. Like the VB course they're probably a basic introduction but I
would advise caution and wait for comment from other customers of Electra
Technologies.

Cic.

I have never used these people, and I am MCSE rather than MSCD but would
make the following general observations from their web site...

1) Any one who advertises a hackers tool kits and says "Please use this
material responsibly" is acting irresponsibly. (providing the hackers tool
kit is any good :-)

2) I think a key part to any course that inlcudes Microsoft certifications
are some kind of practise examinations. There are non in these courses.

3) I also beleive that you need pracital hands on experience. At the least
for this you need demo versions of the software and I don't see those with
this materials.

3) I enjoyed the "All Microsoft Certifications Enjoy Good Salaries". I don't
beleive this is true any more. In the North west I know of several MCSEs
(Including myself) who are unemployed and can't find work at a sensible
salary...

If you are using the product you are looking at to do the exam on in anger
then :-

1. Download the exam guide from the microsoft web site.
2. Look at the demo exams for the course...

(http://www.transcender.com/products/demos.asp have some but there are
others)

3. Then decide if you need a comprehensive course, and if so expect to pay
for a good one.. If you know most of it use the microsoft Technet or MSDN
web sires to refresh your knowledge.

I got their training material for the MCSE certification cheaply on
ebay. Rubbish. Not worth the paper or cd it is printed on.
