Just had a dialog pop up:

Microsoft Windows
Close Programs to prevent information loss
Your computer is low on memory, save your files and close these programs:

Not seen that before, think I'd better download Malwarevytes.

I have a 49,088 MB paging file that must be a joke? PC has 16 GB RAM, 15.7
GB usable.

Which version of Windows?

Think it is a program issue but it is a long time since I have seen this.

Cheers

I agree, we use Win 10 enterprise at work, I am employed by the NHS.
These messages are pretty common. Restarting the machine clears away
this message. But have you tried clearing away all your junk files?
CCleaner and bleachbit is pretty good.

8.1 running on an HP 230 with a Xeon E3-1245 3.4 GHz, 16 GB RAM and 7 x
SSD. I have never seen it before, I should have looked at Task Manager
when it came up.

Some programmes have memory leak, After a time all avaliable RAM is consumed
by this leak.

In this case the message is better than the average MS message.

If the PC runs out of "real" memory it backs stuff up to the paging file.
Usually if the paging file fills up then Windows automatically extends it.
So this could be a sign that you have one or more programs with a memory
leak (or far too many browser tabs open).

Cheers

Yep. At which point you may have discovered Task Manager couldn't run
due to lack of memory, which is always helpful!

Something has had a serious memory leak, that basically shouldn't happen
with normal domestic duties on a 16gig PC.
