If anyone is in the market for WD products then it might be worth a look
in the WD shop.

WD Red NAS drives are currently cheaper from there than anywhere else I
can find plus, if you sign up for their newsletter, there's a further
10% off your next order.

I've made good use of it...

Are they all the SMR ones that people have returned?

No, there's both CMR and SMR. 8TB and above are CMR.

The 10% isn't limited to hard drives.

I noticed that with Crucial recently - a good few quid cheaper direct from
them.

I've just had a couple of WD 3TB Reds fail at 3 and 3.5 years. Bad batch I
suppose. I'm sure yours will be OK :-)

Reds appear to be out of stock right now.

https://blocksandfiles.com/2020/06/24/wd-16-18tb-disk-drives-leak-into-existence-and-shingling-kerfuffle-gets-red-rebrand-bandaid/
is a useful explanation of the WD rebranding.

Thanks. I might have accidentally bought 42TB of external Elements drives.
This is, if they fulfill the backorder. They're CMR whitelabel SATA
Ultrastars inside. GBP170 per 14TB (including 15% education discount) is a
rather good price :)

It's nice they've included USB2 compatibility. That'd be speedy.
