I've never heard of Dealio so have had no experience, but have you tried their methods?

If none of these work read the last line and ask them.

I've found Revo Uninstaller, which has a free version and a free
'portable' version very good at removing obstinate software - although
it occasionally gets beaten. It scans an installation beforehand, then
runs the provided uninstaller (don't click to restart if prompted) then
re-scans and offers the detritus up for deletion. I always select and
delete everything it's found, and it's never left me with a problem.
The big name security packages often leave many, many hundreds of files
and registry entries behind, even when you select a "remove completely"
option.

Of course, you don't need me to tell you that a toolbar you install
which offers to find you 'deals' won't be working for your interests...

have installed that's taking up half your screen?"
them "what's a toolbar?"

So right! It's getting quite difficult to download only what you want
these days - Acrobat Reader and Oracle Java even are trying to foist
pre-ticked clutter on to you. And sites like UltraVNC sell space to
advertisers with huge "Download Now" banners while hiding the tiny,
genuine download link for 8 seconds. It's no wonder granny gets
confused.

+1.

Anyone downloading aTube Catcher - beware, this now installs the Ask
toolbar without warning and without asking permission. Even when
uninstalled it leaves turds behind.

Yes, i really hate trying to talk someone through downloading something. I
like filehippo, a great repositary of software and released updates are
there, The site is great as long as you know how to mentally filter out the
adverts.

Direct them to the site, tell them to type into the search bar 'avast' you
get a page with the avast software link (not download link), sandwiched by
some very iffy looking google ads trying to persuade the downloader into
purchasing some crappy and some bogus anti virus software. You click to
download takes you to a page with an advert with a 'free download' dialogue
box for AVG. making it appear you must click that link to continue.

Is the Ask toolbar officially considered malicious? It seems anecdotal to
slow ie browsing down. Probably the worst offender for slowing down machines
though must be Alot/conduit toolbars. It's like someone poured treacle over
the computer.

I don't think so, but it certainly shouldn't be installed without the
user's express consent.

And it doesn't cleanly uninstall - it leaves loads of shite in the
registry, leaves the browser homepage set to ask.com and the default
search engine to ask.com. Twats.
