I've recently received a PDF file which won't print on my HP LaserJet
M252DW.

I've tried three different PDF viewers over two different PCs (both
running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit).

Other printing seems to be fine at the moment.

Google (other search engines are available) show plenty of hits over the
years (but not for this specific printer).

Will test later for Windows 8.1. Will also double check for updated
printer drivers.

Printer is connected over Ethernet, so one solution of turning off high
speed USB doesn't seem applicable.

Anyone else hit this sort of thing?

Cheers

If it'll let you, set up an alternate printer driver that uses PCL
instead. The printer/driver won't try to interpret the (probably broken)
PDF directly but will convert it to bitmap first.

Forgot to mention that I've just switched over to printing in black only
as the cyan cartridge is almost empty.

I may switch back (if I can find out how) and see if that changes anything.

Although the problem document is all black anyway.

Seems the problem relates to not enough memory to hold the complete print
job which is a weird thing to happen on a modern printer; I assumed that
there was flow control between the printer and the driver on the PC to
stop this happening.

Else how could the printer service a muti-page document? Is this saying
that a single page in this document is too complex for the printer?

Sigh.

Have you tried printing to PDF and then printing that on the Laserjet?

How much memory does your printer have?

Probably. Disable "advanced printing features".

http://www.steves-digicams.com/knowledge-center/enable-advanced-printing-features.html

I was involved in configuring a high availability print server farm
nationally used, and that setting was essential to getting some
consistent output from certain Ricoh multifunction printers. And from
the description in that link, possibly others with broken drivers or
insufficient handling of memory.

Give it a go!

Yes, oddly enough my Laserjet P2015n recently started failing to print
PDFs, throwing a page with an "Out of memory" error. This happened even
on what appeared to be simple one-page PDFs. The print driver is the HP
PCL6 driver (I didn't try PCL5, but should have done).

I suspect that the cause may be the software generating the PDF
including large bitmaps.

Anyway, a memory upgrade fixed it.

Sadly there doesn't seem to be a memory upgrade for this model.

Waiting for a TUIT to do firmware and driver upgrades.

There is only one document so far that has shown this problem; we shall
see.

I had to stick more memory in an old LJ A3 printer to get it to print
engineering drawings.

It's got 256MB according to the spec, which should be plenty.

Try using the PCL5 driver instead.

I have one of these, and it has no option for a memory upgrade. I've never
seen the error message the OP is getting, or indeed any other, in the 18
months or so that I've had it.

Wasn't there something in the news recently about some HP printers
automatically updating their firmware? So, that's not an option.

The printer doesn't do that alone; the installed HP crapware on a Windows OS
does.

So not a problem for me. ;-)
