Ok, I am a newbie and I am not afraid to admit that I need some help
here. I just got DSL today and I am trying to get a small home network.
I cannot get an internet connection through my router. I plugged my
modem into the routers WAN port, from there I plugged in from the
router to my pc. I think my ISP automatically issues my IP address ( on
my LAN connection, I have it set to obtain IP automatically). For the
life of me, I can not get this running. I was under the impression that
the connection of a router was "Plug and Play". Please help. Thanks

In article <1126834342....@g49g2000cwa.googlegroups.com>,
jnbt...@gmail.com says...
Are you sure that you're using the right sort of cables (straight-
through rather than crossover) and that they aren't faulty?
Can you get to the config page of the router from the PC?
Is the router new or has it previously been configured for a different
network?
Have you had the DSL working properly with a single PC? If so you may
need to clone the MAC address of that machine to the router to get your
ISP to recognise it.

It was Ebay deal...I just reset it and it works. But here is the thing.
when I am connected to the pc directly from the DSL modem, I am getting
100mbs. When I run the DSL to the Router, it goes down to 10mbs.. it is
a Linksys EtherFast BEFSR41 V.2 Wired 4 Port Router. Any Ideas? Thanks
for the info.
