Hi!

I just bought a second hand Netgear FS308 with no manual. It is one of
the old style blue metal boxed 8 port switch. I currently have a
Netgear MR814 v2 which is simple to use with the http interface.

I am somewhat of a loss at how to connect to the FS308 and access the
settings. The guy i bought it from reset it to factory settings so it
is as new. I tried the Netgear site, which has no record of a FS308 so
no manual.

I Googled and just found reviews so if anyone can give me a pointer or
two in how to access a switch which does not have the http interface,
i would be very grateful!

Cheers,

The MR814v2 is a wireless router which has configuration to change, the
FS308 is a network switch which has almost no configuration to change.

Simple answer, you don't. There is no configuration except for a set of
dip switches on the back which select the duplex mode. Set the dip
switches for auto and forget them.

Thanks for the response.

I was under the impression i could set up port forwarding in the
switch? If i can't 'log on' to the switch how can i set up port
forwarding and so on?

Nope, you'll be needing a router for that. The FS308 is just a switch,
i.e. all it does is connect PC's together, it doesn't know how or why,
it just does!

Buy a router. This switch doesn't do port forwarding as it's just a
switch.
