I've just got one of the dlink 504 routers. Connected everything up, pinged
the router which returns all 4 packets with no problem. Then I loaded my
browser to configure it with the address http://192.168.0.1 the browser
returns the message cannot display page, ive been into internet options and
made sure it says never dial up etc, also been to LAN setting and clicked
detect settings auto and also unclicked, still no joy. .
I attached the serial cable and reset the default settings of the router and
restarted it.. no joy.
I added a wireless access point to the lan and my lap top and desktop can
communicate and file share with no problems. But I can't configure either
with the web browser.
I still have my 56k Modem installed, I have tried removing it still the same
response.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Windows ME
IE6
Macaffee Firewall (i've tried turning it off and also allowing ICMP.. no
joy)

Hi,

I also have a dsl-504. Alas I can't help you with your problem. When I set
mine up. I connected ONE pc only so as not to cause me any confusion. I
never even needed the serial cable. I just plugged it in and away it went.
Although I need have to change some of the settings (not mentioned in the
start-up guide) such as NAT set to enable.

Only thing I have to change on my pc was to set to automatically receive an
IP address. I have a dial up connection on there too (as a back-up) and this
causes no interference.

Have you checked the obvious things like cables?..

sorry I can't offer any more help.

Under your LAN settings do you by any chance connect to the Internet via
a proxy server.

I had this setting turned on and had this problem setting up a D-Link
614+. As soon as I turned to proxy setting off http://192.168.0.1 gave
me the set up page.

Had a very similar problem with a cable router (Speedcom+). I just
used the telnet option which was a lot quicker anyway......
