Hi There!

I'm trying to use a Linksys Etherfast Cable/Dsl Router, Model BEFSR41 to
share my cable internet conection. My Cable Modem is a Elsa Microlink and
the PC's are both runing Windows, one with XP and the other with 98 SE. It
seems that the only way i can have internet access is to plug in only one.
At times i can plug both but only the first will have internet acess..In the
other hand, the only way i can make it work for my main PC isto to plug it
in to the Uplkin port.. neither port 1, 2, 3 or 4 will work. The Cable Modem
is conected to the WAN port.. I've tried many variations, to make sure that
the cables are working fine and i've confirmed that nothing is wrong with
them. Here's another example, if i use the second PC (the one with W98 SE)
in the uplink port it will work fine. Another weird thing is that when i
plug both to the router (the XP PC to the uplink port, and the W98 to the
port 1) the XP PC will say that the network cable is unpluged... and when i
disconect the port 1 PC (the one with Windows 98) it will become to work
fine..

Any help will be aprecciated,

Sorry for my rusty English..

Portugal Salutes you !

Jack

How do you know that the cables are fine. Have you joined the 2 PCs together
with them and found them to work?

I am guessing that by the fact it works in the uplink port, your Ethernet
cable is a crossover cable which of course will not work on the other ports.
