Search engine doesn't need to cost anything.
See atomz.com
And web hosting should (I believe) be done by someone trained to do it
belonging to the organisation who's website it it.
And not be dependant on money imput to anyone/any software.
A domain and space costs next to nothing.

It is always sad when a very well focused web site based on a good cause
starts sinking. I hope you are not paying loads of money to keep the site
operational. You might like to talk to the web company I have - 50%
reduction for charities at http://www.cloud-ten.co.uk/it/ and really cheap
page updates done for you. Let me know if it will help

PS Have you tried approaching Lloyds for funding - they tend to like on-line
things, I hear. I'll let you know if I can find any other funding sources.

I posted this information to inform people here, and out of concern that
there is a shortage of good resourcing for the community sector. Don't have
any links with Community Web, or with any of the groups using their web
space. (But I think it's great that they are willing to admit they need
help.)
There's an email address on their home page at
http://www.communityweb.org.uk
if anyone wants to send comments or suggestions.
