I appreciate that this is not of general interest, but I've searched the
MAFF and now the DEFRA websites looking for a simple guide to things
like this, since we are setting up for a v. small number of beef cattle
(and probably would have got them by now if it weren't for the FMD. Does
anyone know where I should look to get the "beginner's guide" to
legislation on keeping cattle. Thank you.

Maybe 'Trading Standards' could help? They are doing the licences for
slaughter.

it may be that either the list is not fully up to date, or you might be best
to phone Market Drayton to check. In theory you should be applying to the
local authority for licences etc. If they give you a licence it sees pretty
certain that there is OTMS there

is that the list from
http://www.ib-uk.gov.uk/otmsabattoirscollectioncentres.html
?

word is that Collection Centres won't be able to send OTMS animals
on until next week at the earliest.
Rendering Capacity is still limited and causing abbatoirs to run at
lower throughputs than they hoped!

Eh? So I take my two cows to the local mart on Friday morning and they stay
there till next week?
Sounds unlikely to me.

I suspect (?) they will be going straight from Mkt Drayton to Freddie's
abattoir near Crewe.

Cows delivered at 6.55am, trailer cleaned and home before that awful Jonnie
Walker (DJ not booze) started.

:-))

You know when summat starts to irritate you, and then it keeps on going and
won't stop? Well that's what *I* think about JW. I quite like Sally Traffic,
but I find the 'banter' tedious. IMHO
