FAST TRACK ANNOUNCEMENT REMOVE: uk.announce.events, uk.announce.d, uk.announce.events.d
=======================
In the procedures established for maintaining the uk.* hierarchy
<http://www.usenet.org.uk/guidelines.html> there are provisions, where
there is a consensus and the proposal is straightforward and
non-controversial, to proceed by the "fast-track" method, so as to
avoid the necessity for holding a full vote.
I have now received a request to fast-track the following proposal:
remove uk.announce.events
remove uk.announce.d
remove uk.announce.events.d
This proposal will be activated no earlier than seven days from the
posting of this notice (i.e. not before December 28th), unless there
are objections (of which six or more, or any one which seems to the
Committee to be well founded, shall suffice to halt the process).
Objections should be emailed directly to Control at <con...@usenet.org.uk>.
Objections will be resolved by the committee (comm...@usenet.org.uk)
============================================================================
Changes from previous RFD:
uk.announce removed from groups to be removed.
Rationale changed to reflect this
Proponent's summary of discussion:
The original proposal was to remove all groups in the uk.announce
hierarchy as the moderation of uk.announce and uk.announce.events
appeared to be broken and the .d (discussion) groups were moribund
spam traps.
However, several people offered themselves as moderators for
uk.announce and a proposal for rechartering has now been put forward.
There were some enquiries about whether uk.announce.d should be kept
but many other posters suggested that it would be best to rmgroup this
and then, but only if necessary, create a more sensibly named group.
Others suggested that follow ups to postings in uk.announce could be
set to poster or a relevant uk.* hierarchy newsgroup.
I feel that it is now time to ask for the removal of the groups
uk.announce.d, uk.announce.events and uk.announce.events.d
END SUMMARY
RATIONALE: remove uk.announce.*
The original proposal was to remove all groups in the uk.announce
hierarchy. However several people have stated in discussion on
the first RFD that they are willing to act as moderators. So I
have dropped that group from this proposal.
However there seems to be no support for the retention of the
other groups in the uk.announce hierarchy. Possibly a new group
uk.announce.discuss could be created if there is a proven need.
The group uk.announce.events is effectively dead as no posts have
appeared for several years. Apparently technical difficulties
prevented the moderation from working. The discussion groups,
uk.announce.d and uk.announce.events.d are spam traps. The last
moderator, Brian McCauley, has told me that the position of moderator
is vacant.
Hence, I think that it is time these groups were removed.
END RATIONALE
PROPOSAL: removal of uk.announce.*
The removal of uk.announce.d
uk.announce.events
