This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) for the following changes
in the uk.* Usenet hierarchy:

RATIONALE: remove uk.announce.*
The original proposal was to remove all groups in the uk.announce
hierarchy. However several people have stated in discussion on
the first RFD that they are willing to act as moderators. So I
have dropped that group from this proposal.
However there seems to be no support for the retention of the
other groups in the uk.announce hierarchy. Possibly a new group
uk.announce.discuss could be created if there is a proven need.
The group uk.announce.events is effectively dead as no posts have
appeared for several years. Apparently technical difficulties
prevented the moderation from working. The discussion groups,
uk.announce.d and uk.announce.events.d are spam traps. The last
moderator, Brian McCauley, has told me that the position of moderator
is vacant.
Hence, I think that it is time these groups were removed.

posted by a neutral vote taker if the discussion warrants it.
Alternatively, the proposal may proceed by the fast-track method. Please
do not attempt to vote until this happens.
This RFD attempts to comply fully with the "Guidelines for Group Creation
within the UK Hierarchy" as published regularly in uk.net.news.announce.
