Summer
school makes welcome return to Birmingham
MADE,
the regional architecture centre in the West Midlands, is
delighted to be leading the CABE
urban design summer school in Birmingham 11 to 14 July
2010. It is the second time in four years that the school will
be hosted in the city.
The
choice of Birmingham recognises the tremendous transformation
the city has achieved through good design as well as the huge
challenges it still faces. Already there is quite a buzz in
the city and the region about hosting the school and a
determination to make it the best ever. Book
before 30th April and save £100!
Designing sustainable places
In
December, Birmingham made a bold declaration on climate
change. The city has set itself the ambitious target of
reducing CO2 levels in the city by 60 per cent by 2026.
Sustainability will be a major theme of the summer school
drawing on the resources that CABE
has developed around sustainable cities.
The
summer school is not just about listening to the experts.
Delegates will work together to design high quality
sustainable places using real sites around Birmingham.
Learn from the experts, learn from
your colleagues
The
summer school team are working on a selection of inspiring
keynote speakers for the school, as well as interesting
workshop leaders and an experienced group of facilitators. The
summer school also offers you an opportunity to network with
national and international colleagues working on the built
environment. You will learn, debate and work alongside
architects, planners, urban designers, landscape designers,
traffic engineers, regenerators and community leaders.

Come to Birmingham, leave
‘shell-shocked’
When
the summer school last visited Birmingham in 2007, delegate
Mike Edwards from Blackpool said:
“I
am still shell-shocked. It was the most intensive, and useful,
school, conference, seminar, I have ever attended...”
