Dear All

Would be grateful if you would consider signing and passing on this petition against Customs Clearance abuse http://www.citizengo.org/en/32734-please-repeal-byelaw-making-customs-clearance-charges-non-refundable-where-vat-wrongly-imposed?tc=gm

Although the material accompanying the petition is written from a Christian perspective, as befits the CitizenGO website, I think that the issue of accountability of public service contractors is wider than my personal affiliation, hence sharing it here. The story, if you're not yet sure whether you would want to sign the petition, is that I bought some really nice items from US firm DaySpring on their 30% discount Cyber Monday event, carefully keeping within my £15 value added tax allowance, then, a fortnight after the parcel had been delivered to me in the UK, FedEx claimed that the retailer had listed two identical phone covers http://www.dayspring.com/redeemedeverythingbeautifulpaddedphonecover separately and at vastly differing prices ($1.98 and $40.95 respectively), and hit me with an invoice for £17.45, comprising value added tax and their own "service" (ahem!) charge. They also say that I will still owe the tax even if I return the phone covers to the seller.

Best wishes,

Verity
