Hi,

I'm giving a presentation of the survey (very) soon.
I am sharing a draft with you for comment, if you have the time and/or inclination.

All comments appreciated.

(I've also copied in the latest draft version of the survey, which is currently in the process of being edited)

The files are too big for google groups - so I am using dropbox - link here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/z4zz5uza94473o8/TLO%20Survey%20-%20Presentation.zip?dl=0

Please note, I'm only planning to have this link active for a short period.

Regards,
Chris Partridge

Dear Chris,

I found the spreadsheet and the report on this link, but not the presentation.

Regards

Matthew

Hi Chris,

The presentation looks good to me.  Something else that reinforces the case for the FDM and the Information Management Framework that it is part of is the UK National Data Strategy.  For those of you who avidly follow the uk.gov activities you may have seen its publication yesterday:  https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/uk-national-data-strategy/national-data-strategy

It is worth reading.  Of the four "pillars" it has the first, "Foundations", being data quality:

"Data Foundations: The true value of data can only be fully realised when it is fit for purpose, recorded in standardised formats on modern, future-proof systems and held in a condition that means it is findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable. By improving the quality of the data, we can use it more effectively, and drive better insights and outcomes from its use."

It also mentions committments to do certain things, including the creation and use of the IMF.  Thanks to any of you involved directly in the development of the NDS and if you weren't directly involved the work of the FDM group, etc has all helped to reinforce the case for addressing data quality across the UK.

You don't need to add it to your presentation as it is 'hot off the press' but you can certainly mention it.

Al

Hi Matthew,

I can see it in the zip.
It is a PowerPoint Show file - *.ppsx. See below.

I'll send you a copy privately, to make sure you have it.

Thanks Al - brilliant catch - it is in there :)

Policy paper - National Data Strategy - Published 9 September 2020

The steps we will take to consolidate the framework and approach, working with regulators and the Better Regulation Executive where appropriate, will include the coordination and alignment of existing work to build on data foundations across the economy, such as:

working across the physical environment, including the standardisation of data about location, the built and natural environment, and transport and other infrastructures. This will include further developing the Information Management Framework, which will seek to establish a common language by which digital twins can communicate securely and effectively, part of the Centre for Digital Built Britain’s work towards developing a National Digital Twin.

Hi Chris,

The presentation looks great!

I do not know the audience and venue so my comments
may be out of place, but I found some of the text
content difficult to read even on my own PC -
for example the text for
"The Foundation Data Model: an IMF Component"

This seems to be a critical point to me
(it is certainly a critical point *for* me!)

Would it be better to show the main points in bullets?

Also, might it be possible to increase the size of
the fonts for the inner circles of the slide
"general choices - percentages"?

In the table "overall formal structure", should
the first example be the following?
"My arm has a whole-part relation to my hand
(my hand is part of my arm)"
Or considering your audience, it might be better
to use "door" and "building"...

I hope that this is helpful.

Steven

Hi Steven.

All good comments.
Some of the pictures originate a few cycles back - but should be able to find the original.
Like the idea of changing the examples - excellent suggestion.
Many thanks.

Chris Partridge
