Hello list,

Slight branch off the last topic. There are the following things that
need doing, which one of you may be interested in:

* Write a script to put standard metadata into recorded videos
* Write a script to transcode videos into multiple formats for ondemand
* Work out a way of publishing ondemand files online

All of this and more is on the wiki page;
http://wiki.emfcamp.org/wiki/Streaming

If you want to work on these, stick yer name on it on the wiki :-)

Ta,

Allor again,

I've updated the wiki page to include a schedule for on the day
volunteers for running things like cameras, switching, sound, etc.
It's on the wiki page:

http://wiki.emfcamp.org/wiki/Streaming#On_the_day_Volunteers_required

Obviously this is something that will need to fill up closer to the
time when we have an actual schedule, so people know what talks they
want to see - however I thought I'd make a mention of it now just so
people know it's there.

Hey

With Ondemand files depending on the file extentions then I suggest vimeo is always a good way for furthur advertising of emf. and its generally a good place for videos

Exactly how we're going to publish on-demand videos is currently under
discussion - if vimeo has a simple API for publishing videos
automatically, that would be a good plan. It might make it easier to
integrate with the main website, too.

We certainly want to host the high quality originals on our own
servers as well, in various formats, but using something like vimeo or
blip.tv or whatever is a good plan to simplify the streaming
requirements (would mean we don't have to reinvent the wheel and
configure a streaming media server ourselves!)

it has 2 ways of uploading data via streaming or via posting the file. Is that what you meant?

That looks pretty simple! I wonder if someone has already written a
script to upload automatically...

The only thing that I would be concerned about with Vimeo is the
amount they let you upload. We're going to be uploading lots and lots
of video (anything up to 16 hours a day, if the schedules are full up)
which even with their plus package will be more than 5GB over the
course of 3 days. The only way we'd manage is with vimeo pro, which
would cost us quite a bit of money. (something like £150 per year)

We can probably publish a couple of particularly noteworthy videos
there, for the purposes of promotion, but I don' think we can afford
to publish everything there.

Btw, i think wipkip.nikhef.nl will happily host the recordings. I can ask?

Please do!  Though, I think it may be good to set up an rsync to mirror - as we have a 800G-1TB storage on BigV that we can make use of during the event (might be easier, especially if we're going to be automating publishing to streaming video sites etc).
