EMFM is up!

Hi guys,

Just to let you know, we've got the stream running RIGHT NOW!

http://streaming.emfcamp.org:8000/emfm.ogg

At the moment, it's streaming episodes of The Hackables, Hack All the Spaces, Hackerspaces Signal, The Amp Hour with some EMF ads thrown in for good measure.  It's all set up and ready so that when we get on site, all we have to do is stream at an instance of liquidsoap and we'll be on the air (so to speak).  

It's all fairly resilient, so if EMF drops off the Internet, externally it will go back to playing episodes of podcasts.  As long as the internal network is up, however, people on site will still be able to hear us.  As soon as the connection comes back, off site listeners will  be able to hear us again. 

Also, it gives us the option to take a break for a while and still be streaming relevant content out, which might be good if some of us want to go to sleep (it's a possibility ...)

Why not!  I'm not going to be on site until Thursday, with gmc to set up the studio proper - but if you have a laptop and mic capable of streaming to an Icecast mountpoint I'll send you the details.  

It may have to wait until the camp network is up and running, as for the moment that's the only way to get a live stream injected in. 

Basically:

streaming1.ppmk.emfcamp.org has liquidsoap on it, with harbour listening on a port and a directory of podcasts and ads.  

liquidsoap will stream the podcasts to it's local icecast until someone connects an icecast source to the harbour - at which point it'll switch to that instead.  

live.emf.naxxfish.eu (the external streaming server) has liquidsoap on it and looks for a mount on streaming1.ppmk.emfcamp.org.  when it sees that, it will relay it onto it's own local icecast.  Otherwise, it'll play it's own directory of podcasts into Icecast.  

If streaming1.ppmk.emfcamp.org is not up, there's no easy way of broadcasting live to it.  I can probably set up a harbour on the external server, but it would require taking the stream down temporarily.

Importnat question btw: do we have a license for playing music with a restrictive
license?? Or should we limit ourselves to cc licensed and pd music?

Nope, we don't have PPL/PRS licenses at all - was deemed an unnececary expense.  So yes, we need to stick to CC/PD music.

We could do a show on thursday evening though! Studio will be all set up and
if some of the orga would not mind joining the table we could have a nice
informal break-in of the studio between 22-00 ?
