In theory, given more cities offering a service like this, you could
find nearby bus-stops using GPS & Naptan data, eg.
http://transport.data.gov.uk/id/stop-point/1980SNA19777
and then go find the live data if available, eg.
http://id.southampton.ac.uk/bus-stop/SNA19777
(available as .json and .rdf)
Hugh Glaser has loaded this data into his sameas.org service so you can
give it the data.gov.uk URI and it'll tell you the URIs of other things
it's the sameAS:

I think there's some great possibilities for producing global tools for
local data!
