The OAK Group has a funded PhD studentship available on the topic mentioned above. This studentship is an opportunity to work in a vibrant research area and carry out research on a topic with important applications. The studentship will focus on devising algorithms for Web scale information extraction.  Linked Open Data will be used to seed learning. The studentship is associated with the project Lodie, an EPSRC funded project on the same topic. The project covers 2 senior research associates over 3 years. It also involves short collaborations with Yahoo! Research Barcelona (Spain) and the University of Linkoeping (Sweden). 

The student will become a member of Sheffield University's OAK group ( and will be supervised by Prof. Fabio Ciravegna (

The studentship is funded by the Department of Computer Science and will cover fees and living expenses. 

Candidates must be UK or EU citizens and must have an excellent first degree (preferably a first/distinction, i.e. average >70%), in Computer Science or closely related subject. Excellent programming skills are required. Some prior experience of either natural language processing, information extraction from text, machine learning, or linked data is essential. Knowledge of Web technologies would be a distinct advantage, as is any previous experience of carrying out research.
