Getting started in beekeeping - buying bees in spring.

It's time to buy.

Most parts of the UK have been lucky enough to have some nice warm weather in March this year and as we approach April many beekeepers will have overwintered nucs that they have been able to inspect.

In the South of the UK some of those nuc boxes will be getting full and ready to move on to a new owner.

Have you got your nuc booked?

It sounds crazy but some of the suppliers of the most expensive overwintered nucs will have already sold out by now and you will only be able to order summer nucs from them for later this year.

There are many considerations when buying bees. If you are absolutely new to beekeeping and buying your very first bees then you may find it particularly useful to buy from a bee keeper local to you who can not only supply you with bees but help you with local knowledge and ongoing advice.
