Hi All,
If you can collect them, a very experienced beekeeper in Salisbury is offering frames of capped brood covered with bees in exchange for new frames with foundation.
The month of May.
Here right now it is cold and wet outside and the bees are staying inside out of the rain. But given a warm dry day they will be making honey from a wide variety of nectar sources. The nectar flow will last for a few more weeks before we get to the June gap.
A mating month
May is also a month when virgin queens make their maiden flights and party high in the air with those drones that are strong enough to catch them. We hope they manage to return to the same colony that they left behind and settle down to serious egg laying activity.
Swarms collected
This year the second half of April was great weather for those bees that wanted to swarm. Swarms that can be assessed and nurtured now that they have been collected or lured are in their new boxes.
Do email me if you are looking for bees.
Happy beekeeping.
Yours,
Patrick
