Henry Kissinger's infamous quote about Chile

'Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel said that his
nation “denounces and urgently demands the
reaction of the international community against
the criminal attack by the US on Venezuela.” He
added that “our zone of peace is being brutally
assaulted. State terrorism against the brave
Venezuelan people and against Our America.”
Colombian President Gustavo Petro adopted a more
cautious tone, saying his government was
observing “with deep concern the reports of
explosions and unusual aerial activity recorded
in recent hours in… Venezuela, as well as the
consequent escalation of tension in the region.”
“The Colombian Government rejects any unilateral
military action that could aggravate the
situation or put the civilian population at risk,” he added.
Former Bolivian President Evo Morales said that
he “strongly and unequivocally repudiates the
bombing of the United States against Venezuela.”
“It is a brutal imperialist aggression that
violates its sovereignty. All our solidarity with
the Venezuelan people in resistance. Venezuela is
not alone,” the ex-president stated.
The events come amid high tensions between
Washington and Caracas. US President Donald Trump
has accused Venezuela’s government of involvement
in large-scale drug trafficking, while Venezuelan
President Nicolas Maduro has rejected the
allegations as a pretext for foreign aggression and toppling his government.'

The United States has a long history of
intervening in Latin American politics and
supporting coups that overthrew South American
presidents and leaders. These actions were
primarily driven by the desire to protect U.S.
business interests, counter perceived communist
threats during the Cold War, and install pro-U.S. regimes.
Key examples of U.S.-backed overthrows of South
American presidents/leaders include:
Honduras (2009): The U.S. was involved in the
coup that ousted President Manuel Zelaya, an
action which plunged the country into significant violence and instability.
Chile (1973): The U.S. engaged in extensive
efforts to destabilize the democratically elected
socialist government of President Salvador
Allende. Following his election in 1970,
President Nixon ordered the CIA to encourage a
coup. A military junta led by Augusto Pinochet
eventually overthrew Allende's government on
September 11, 1973, leading to a brutal dictatorship.
Brazil (1964): The U.S. supported the coup d'état
against the democratically elected President João
Goulart, who was perceived as a leftist threat
during the Cold War. The coup established a
military dictatorship that lasted for over two decades.
Guatemala (1954): The U.S. Central Intelligence
Agency (CIA) orchestrated the removal of
democratically elected President Jacobo Árbenz,
whose land reforms threatened U.S. corporate
interests, particularly the United Fruit Company.
The coup triggered decades of civil war and violence in the country.

Starmer was then asked if he condemned the
strikes and the capture of Maduro, which he
failed to do, and instead insisted that he wanted to speak with Trump first.
“I want to establish the facts first,” he replied.
“I want to speak to President Trump. I want to speak to allies.
“As I said, I can be absolutely clear that we
were not involved in that, and as you know, I
always say and believe we should all uphold
international law, but I think at this stage,
fast moving situation, let's establish the facts and take it from there.”
Starmer added: “I think President Trump is doing
a press conference later, so hopefully more information will come out then.”
The Prime Minister has faced fierce criticism for
failing to condemn the attacks from several UK party leaders.
