Social Network Intervention for Severe Mental
Illness) is a large-scale programme of research
into crisis and continuing mental health care
within the NHS.

transform the current model of health care for
patients with major mental health problems. The
research asks several questions: Can we develop a
way to offer Open Dialogue in the NHS that is
acceptable to staff (including peers) and
service-users? Does it fit in with how existing
NHS services operate? Does offering Open Dialogue
result in good clinical outcomes, and is it worth
the money? What is the experience of service
users, carers, and staff? Within the programme
there are smaller projects focusing on: How NHS
mental health services are configured, and how
they change Mental health services and referral
pathways in different Trusts Peers and their role
within Open Dialogue teams Training people to
deliver Open Dialogue Whether it would be
possible to compare Open Dialogue to
treatment-as-usual in a large multi-centre trial
(the feasibility trial) The health economics of
Open Dialogue and of treatment-as-usual Comparing
Open Dialogue with NHS usual care: The trial The
ODDESSI trial is working with participants
receiving Open Dialogue or usual care to look at
which approach is most helpful. We are also
looking at whether a sense of shared decision
making is important in recovery, and a person’s
relationships, and what the experiences of carers
and staff have been. The first participant was
recruited in June 2019, and the final
participants in August 2021. We follow up
participants for two years with research
interviews and by collecting information from
their electronic records. Here Professor Stephen
Pilling and Dr Russell Razzaque present an
overview of the ODDESSI research programme and
trial protocol. Capturing the experiences of
carers in the trial As part of the trial, we aim
to recruit a 20% subsample of carers, friends,
family or individuals supporting the trial
participants. The ODDESSI research team in Devon
spoke with some of the carers that had been
recruited about their experiences on the ODDESSI

in the UK, Sir Keir Starmer has warned. The Prime
Minister insisted the economy was resilient and
well placed to absorb the “likely impact” on
households and businesses. He acknowledged
people’s concerns about the threat of rising
bills in the wake of the US-Israeli assault on
Iran and Tehran’s reprisals against countries
across the region. Oil prices have soared above
100 dollars a barrel for the first time since
2022 in response to the crisis. Julia
Hartley-Brewer ends her interview with Sir
Richard Dalton after he brings up “genocide in
Gaza”. “I’m embarrassed that a former British
ambassador could claim there was genocide in Gaza! That’s absolute nonsense!”

Neil Melvin, pointed out, the US’s attacks have
exposed the limits of international law and a
lack of enforcement – and Europe’s difficult
position.

which are repressing their populations and
conducting terrorism. “So now we’ve seen the
Europeans having to shift.” He said Trump’s
action has revealed inconsistency within Europe’s
position, as Spain continues to call the strikes
an illegal act, and have even asked the US forces
to leave their bases in Spain. But Germany “has
come out quite firmly supporting President Trump
while not necessarily agreeing with the legality
of this”. Meanwhile, Starmer is somewhere in
between. Melvin said: “The UK has been struggling
to occupy a middle ground, so the longer this
conflict goes on, the more these difficulties and
contradictions in the European position, I think,
are going to be exposed.” The pressure is on for
Starmer to hold onto the course he has set out on
– no matter how convoluted it may be. Legal
Questions Loom There could be further danger
ahead for Starmer over his attempts to avoid
falling into legal trouble over the strikes, too.
Dr Aurel Sari, international law expert from the
University of Exeter, suggested Starmer’s legal
defence “rests on a crucial distinction between
offensive and defensive military action”. “Iran,
responding to the US-Israeli assault, exercised
its own right of self-defence, a right it was
entitled to invoke under the UN Charter given the
scale of the attack on it,” he said. “However,
Iran’s strikes have not been limited to military
targets, but also hit civilian infrastructure,
including international airports, hotels and
residential areas across the Gulf.” Iran has
launched missiles and drone attacks against
targets in Israel, Bahrain, Qatar, the United
Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Iraq since Saturday.
There are around 300,000 British citizens in the
Gulf region. Sari continued: “Because those
attacks on civilian targets served no genuine
defensive purpose, they exceeded what
international law permits in self-defence. “The
government argues that this, together with
Iranian drone strikes against RAF Akrotiri,
entitles the UK to use force against Iran in the
exercise of the right of individual and
collective self-defence.” However, Sari said this
position is “highly precarious in practice”,
because US military operations “do not neatly
separate offensive from defensive activities”.
The same military bases operate both personnel
and intelligence systems. He warned: “If British
bases inadvertently support the broader
US-Israeli campaign to destroy Iran’s military
and change its government, the UK’s carefully
constructed legal position collapses. “While the
government has drawn a clear legal line, it may lack the ability to hold it.”

Officials are also not commenting on whether
target lists for so-called “defensive” US strikes
from British soil are approved by the UK before
each mission, or if they are audited afterwards.

whether it is allowed to load banned cluster
bombs at UK bases, were rebuffed. The silence
casts serious doubt on Keir Starmer’s claim that
Britain is not involved in the war and is only
letting Donald Trump use British bases for a
“specific, limited defensive purpose”. The prime
minister said US strikes from RAF Fairford in
Gloucestershire and the British-occupied Indian
Ocean island of Diego Garcia were “to destroy
[Iran’s] missiles at source, in their storage
depots or at their launchers.” When asked a
series of simple questions about how Britain
would monitor or enforce the target lists, the
MoD and Attorney General’s Office refused to
answer directly or make ministers available for
an interview with Declassified. An MoD
spokesperson said: “We won’t be providing a
running commentary on our allies’ operations,
including their use of our bases. “The United
States has started using British bases for
specific defensive operations to prevent Iran
firing missiles into the region, which is putting
British lives at risk.” This new goal of
preventing Iran “firing missiles into the region”
seems much broader than what is permitted by the
government’s own legal advice. A summary of that
position said the US should only use UK bases to
“facilitate specific and limited defensive action
against missile facilities in Iran which were
involved in launching strikes at regional
allies.” It is unclear how the UK can distinguish
between missile stockpiles which Iran may need to
lawfully retaliate against the US and Israel’s
illegal attack, and those weapons that might be
fired at civilian sites in the Gulf. Even in
cases such as attacks on hotels in Bahrain, it
has sometimes emerged that US troops were
stationed inside. Professor Marc Weller, a former
UN legal advisor, has said “it may not be
realistic or practical to determine in each
instance which Iranian missile facilities have
targeted regional allies or, more to the point,
which will do so in the future. Presumably some
have been used to attack both Israel and US
forces, and regional states. “Iran will certainly
not be persuaded by this distinction. Its
authorities will not be able to tell which US
strikes launched from UK bases aim to protect UK
regional allies, and which are part of the US’s
overall aggressive campaign to subdue its government.”

released Jonathan Powell thought the process was
“unusual” and “weirdly rushed”. We already knew,
because the PM admitted it in the House of
Commons, that Sir Keir Starmer was aware of an
“ongoing relationship” between Lord Mandelson and
the paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein. But to
see in black and white the red flags being raised
in a two-page due diligence report put together
by the cabinet office was damning for the PM.
Because it confirms that the PM was told the
relationship between the pair was “particularly
close” and continued well after Epstein was
“first convicted of procuring an underage girl in
2008” for sex. It was flagged to Sir Keir that
“Mandelson reportedly stayed in Epstein’s house
while he was in jail in June 2009” and noted
there was “general reputational risk” over his
relationship with Epstein. It warned the PM that
a political appointment – Lord Mandelson – rather
than a diplomatic one was more risky: “If
anything goes wrong, you could be more exposed as
the individual is more connected to you
personally.” The Mandelson files also revealed
that Mr Powell, one of Sir Keir’s most trusted
advisers, found Lord Mandelson’s appointment in
December 2024 was “weirdly rushed” and that he
had been “particularly cautious about the
appointment”. Minutes of a call in September 2025
show that Mr Powell had “raised concerns about
the individual and reputation” to Morgan
McSweeney, the PM’s then chief of staff, and
adds: “MM responded that the issues had been
addressed.” Sir Philip Barton, the Foreign
Office’s top civil servant at the time of Lord
Mandelson’s appointment, “also had reservations”,
according to Mr Powell. That the report was only
two pages long and didn’t investigate more
robustly Lord Mandelson’s relationship with

interview in the Epstein files. A woman who says
Donald Trump abused her when she was 13 years old
in 1984 shared information about her life that
turned out to be true.

and Courier, a newspaper in Charleston, South
Carolina, was able to corroborate details of her
life provided in recent releases from the federal
government’s Jeffrey Epstein archives. The woman
was interviewed four times by the FBI in 2019,
detailing abuse she faced at the hands of Trump
and Epstein. She gave details about her life and
legal history that the newspaper was able to
verify using news reports, court records, police
reports, and government records from multiple
states. None of the confirmed details are
directly related to her allegations against
Trump. In her interviews with the FBI, she
describes Epstein’s activities in the mid-1980s
on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina, where
the financier sexually assaulted minors. She said
that Epstein constantly pressured her to find
more girls to “come party,” describing his
friends as “disgusting.” These so-called parties
usually involved alcohol and drugs, and would
turn violent with beatings and hair pulling. She
said that Trump forced her to commit a sexual act
on him around 1984 after she traveled to New York
or New Jersey with Epstein. She detailed that one
incident took place while Trump was developing a
casino in Atlantic City. She was led to Trump in
a “very tall building with huge rooms.” Trump
allegedly told others to leave the room, and told
her, “Let me teach you how little girls are
supposed to be,” before unzipping his pants and
forcing her to perform a sex act. She told the
FBI that she “bit the (expletive) out of it,”
which angered Trump, who slapped her and cursed.
A friend of the woman also reported her
allegations about Trump to the FBI, asking that
her friend be protected, according to an email
circulated around the bureau that the Justice
Department made public. The woman herself named
business associates of Epstein in North Carolina
who also abused her, and the newspaper was able
to identify some of them. In a statement to the
newspaper, White House press secretary Karoline
Leavitt said the woman’s allegations were
“baseless accusations from decades ago’’ that
“are backed by zero evidence or facts. Leavitt
described the accuser as “a sadly disturbed woman
who has an extensive criminal history.” But Trump
has sought to diminish and bury every Epstein
revelation that paints him in a negative light,

Jeffrey Epstein had two key aides – why do they

Epstein appointed two men to be executors of his
estate – his accountant Richard Kahn and lawyer
Darren Indyke When the FBI raided Jeffrey
Epstein’s New York mansion in July 2019, on the
day he was arrested for child sex trafficking,
agents forced open a large safe to find diamonds,
bundles of cash, passports, binders of CDs and
hard drives.

leave with the items. And when they returned with
a new one, the safe had been emptied while they
were gone – according to FBI documents. Richard
Kahn, Epstein’s accountant and bookkeeper since
2005, had told the mansion’s staff to pack two
suitcases with the contents of the safe and
deliver them to his home, agents wrote. After the
FBI spoke to Kahn’s then lawyer, Kahn agreed to
hand over the suitcases untouched, but he did not
want agents coming to his house and declined to
say who had told him to remove the items.
However, a source close to the investigation into
Epstein told us that he was not aware of Kahn
ever being interviewed or investigated in
relation to the paedophile financier’s criminal
investigation. Kahn’s current lawyer told BBC
News that his client had fully co-operated with
the FBI’s requests. Kahn asked staff at Epstein’s
New York mansion to remove items from a safe,
according to the FBI Kahn, and Epstein’s
long-serving lawyer Darren Indyke, are the sole
executors of Epstein’s estate, controlling all
his wealth and possessions. Although hardly
household names, the pair now hold control over
compensation owed to survivors and the secrets
contained in the documents still held by the
Epstein estate – which, upon request, have been
released to the House Oversight Committee. As
part of its investigation into Epstein’s network,
the congressional committee has subpoenaed –
summoned – the pair to testify. Kahn is appearing
on Wednesday 11 March, while Indyke is due to
testify on Thursday 19 March. We have spoken to
people associated with investigations linked to
Epstein, looked through papers from multiple
court cases, and analysed the most recent
material released in the Epstein files by the US
Department of Justice – to try to uncover more
about the role the two men are alleged to have
played in Epstein’s life and continue to play
after his death. Epstein appointed Indyke and
Kahn as co-executors in August 2019, just two
days before he died in jail awaiting trial for
sex-trafficking minors. He revised his will to
transfer all his wealth into a trust named after
the year of his birth, which the lawyer and
accountant would administer. In their role as
executors, Indyke and Kahn have agreed
compensation packages paid to survivors and
included conditions that prevented survivors who
accepted funds from taking further legal action
against them personally. Other claims are still
outstanding. As beneficiaries of the trust, the
men could also be paid tens of millions of
dollars each from whatever remains when the
claims are settled. Court filings claim that,
either Indyke and Kahn – but often both of them –
“had signatory authority over virtually all of
the accounts held by Epstein”, which meant they
were authorised to make transactions. They also
helped to run multiple Epstein corporations –
some of which, it is alleged in court filings,
existed solely for the purpose of his
sex-trafficking operation. Kahn’s lawyer told us
“there is no basis for such claims” and that
Epstein’s businesses didn’t operate to shield his
activities; “virtually all of them were
tax-filing entities whose ownership was never hidden”.

parents, the Star reports. The conspiracy theory

whose children attended the school. In 2014 Ella
Draper, now 49, was embroiled in an ugly custody
battle with her second husband. In July that
year, Ella and her new man Abraham Christie
claimed the children had made a series of
horrifying allegations regarding their father,
other parents and teachers from the school. In
interviews to the police, the children detailed a
Satanic paedophile ring, tales of murdered babies
and dark sacrifices. However, there was no
evidence of the cult and in September 2014 the
children told police they’d been pressured by
Ella and Abraham to make the allegations. The
investigation was closed. Then, Ella chose to
represent herself in the family courts for the
custody case, meaning she got access to evidence
including videos of the children’s police
interviews. She handed the evidence to Sabine
McNeill, now 77, an informal legal advisor who
had previously accused family courts of stealing
hundreds of children away from their families. In
January 2015, Sabine uploaded Ella’s confidential
material – including the interviews and home
videos of the children alleging satanic abuse –
to the internet, with the mother’s blessing. She
also published an 11-page document titled Mass
Child Sex Abuse In Satanic Ritual Abuse And
Sacrifice Cult, outlining allegations against 175
people alongside their personal details. Given
that this happened during the ongoing custody
case, police were sent to Ella’s house to get an
explanation. Writing in the Daily Mail, podcast
host Alexi explained: “After stalling, Ella ran
into her back garden, climbed over the fence into
the neighbouring property ­ and then over three
more fences ­ to the street. “The next day she
fled to Spain, with Abraham following a day

weapons, maintaining a long-standing policy known
as “nuclear ambiguity.” Under this approach,
Israeli leaders neither confirm nor deny the
existence of a nuclear arsenal, a strategy
designed to deter adversaries without formally
declaring nuclear status. According to the
Nuclear Threat Initiative, Israel has likely
possessed nuclear weapons since the late 1960s
while continuing to avoid official confirmation.
Independent research institutes estimate the size
of Israel’s arsenal based on available
intelligence and historical records. The
Stockholm International Peace Research Institute
(SIPRI) estimates that Israel holds roughly 80
nuclear weapons, making it one of the smaller
nuclear arsenals globally. Similarly, the Arms
Control Association estimates Israel has about 90
nuclear warheads, with enough fissile material
potentially available for around 200 more
weapons. While details remain secret, analysts
believe Israel’s nuclear forces are designed for
multiple delivery methods. SIPRI assessments

We saw it in Iraq with Tony Blair’s lies about

after the assassination of Ayatahi, a girl school
that was attacked, it seems there are about 175
killed, 100 more injured. The following day, I
picked up the Sunday papers. one of them as a
Sunday telegraph. I’ve been through it several
times. There’s no mention of that at all. Imagine
if 165 Israelis had been killed in a bomb from
Iran. It would have been the story on the front.
It would have been covered everywhere. But the
death of 165 young girls is just of no
consequence at all. So I know the editor of the
Sunday Telegraph, Alistister Heath. I sent him an
email saying, you know, why didn’t you cover this
tragedy in the girl school? I’ve not received a
reply. And then I read his leader on the
Telegraph. The Iranian regime is built on an
Islamist doctrine which cannot meaningfully be
negotiated with. It’s simply untrue. The Iranians
do negotiate and they can absolutely be trusted
as they stick to their promises. That was proven
when Obama negotiated the JCPOA nuclear deal with
Iran in 2015. They stuck to it completely
religiously until Trump walked away from it. And
we know from the Omani foreign minister. What has
Iran agreed to is the agreement that Iran will
never ever have a nuclear material that will
create a bomb. So there will be zero
accumulation, zero stockpiling and full
verification. Even United States inspectors will
have access. Iranians were negotiating really
hard to avoid a war. They’d actually offered a
better deal than they had signed off on in 2015.
That was on the table. And that, of course, is when America and Israel struck.

Vasily Nebenzya, Moscow’s representative, said
the resolution was “biased and one-sided”. “The
Council’s adoption could be interpreted by
bad-faith actors, and first and foremost by those
who started this war, to continue their acts of
aggression against Iran,” he warned. The
resolution was tabled by Iran’s Gulf neighbour
Bahrain and sponsored by 135 countries. It
demanded “the immediate cessation of all attacks
by the Islamic Republic of Iran against Bahrain,
Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United
Arab Emirates, and Jordan”. It also condemned
actions or threats by Iran “aimed at closing,
obstructing, or otherwise interfering with
international navigation through the Strait of
Hormuz”. The resolution was passed by 13 votes to
none against, with Russia and China abstaining. A
second draft tabled by Russia, which called on
all sides to cease hostilities, was rejected.
Jamal Fares Alrowaiei, Bahrain’s UN envoy, said
the vote reflected the Gulf’s key role in the
global economy. “This is why ensuring the
security of this region is not merely a regional
matter, it is a common international
responsibility that is closely linked to the
stability of the global economy and energy
security,” he told the Security Council. Amir
Saeid Iravani, Iran’s ambassador to the UN, said
the adoption of the text was a “blatant misuse”
of the Security Council that leaves “a lasting
stain on its record”. “Let me make it clear: this
resolution is a manifest injustice against my
country, the main victim of a clear act of
aggression,” he said. ‘Biased and one-sided’ The
war began on 28 February after the US and Israel
launched strikes across Iran, killing Iranian
Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, senior officials and
many civilians. Iran has responded by launching
drone and missile attacks on Israel, as well as
every country in the Gulf. “Iran’s strategy of
sowing chaos, of trying to hold their neighbours
hostage, trying to shake the resolve of the
region, has clearly backfired, as shown by this
vote today,” said the US ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz.

through passports etc.. When we did, yet more
letters kept arriving demanding more proofs,
birth certificates etc. and eventually when one
of us missed supplying the required information,
within a week or so of being asked, the account
was summarily closed and we got a cheque made out
to one of us with the few hundred pounds that was
in the business bank account. Since neither of us
could get a business bank account up and running
for at least a few months and the bank account
meant nobody could any longer use the website, we
made the reluctant decision to shut it down. Thus
was a thriving business killed off by the
Co_operative bank. Having said that, co-op were
not quite the worst. We did apply to open an
account at Bristol’s ‘ethical’ Triodos bank, who
proceeded to string us along for several months
and then said our business was too risky for them to provide an account!
