BBC World Service report about Instagram
pornograhic algorithms, affecting the underage
too. Instagram running ads promoting child sexual
abuse material in India, BBC finds Instagram has
been running paid adverts promoting child sexual
abuse material in India, a BBC Eye investigation
has found. The ads, seen by the BBC World
Service, use terms including “rape video” and
“child video” and link users to channels on the
messaging app Telegram, where they can buy the
material for as little as 99 rupees (about 80p).

Indian government said it had summoned
representatives of Instagram’s parent company,
Meta, over the adverts. Ads on Instagram are only
published after first being approved by its
moderation technology. When the BBC reported one
of the ads to Instagram, the social media
platform responded 24 hours later saying the post
did not violate its “community guidelines”.
Later, when the BBC asked Meta for comment, it
said it had already disabled several adverts and
suspended the accounts posting them. The company
said it had removed additional ads, disabled more
accounts and blocked URLs for other content that
violated its policies in response to the BBC’s
findings. Telegram said it had removed more than
274,000 groups and channels related to child
sexual abuse material in 2026. The BBC set up an
alias account on Instagram after we noticed that
the platform was pushing sexually suggestive
content, even when a user hadn’t searched for
such material. This included women posting about
food, weather and daily life in India, who were
dressed in revealing clothing and using sexual
innuendo in their posts. The new alias account,
which was set up in India, started following
these women and other similar people – 10 in all
– to investigate sexualised content on the
platform. In less than a week, Instagram started
showing advertisements on the feed featuring
women offering video calls and showing clearly
naked couples having sex. Days later, it began
showing adverts of children with adults in
sexually suggestive situations, with links to
Telegram channels. A retired justice of India’s
Supreme Court, Madan Lokur, said he was concerned
that Instagram was “making money by participating
in a criminal activity” In total, about 30 unique
adverts appeared promoting child sexual abuse,
although some of these were shared by multiple
accounts. The alias account was also shown about
20 ads featuring adult pornography. The
distribution of both child sexual abuse material
and adult pornography are criminal offences in
India, while Meta’s policy states that ads must
not contain adult nudity, genitals or content
that sexually exploits or endangers children. The
BBC has reported all of the ads and the Telegram
channels to the Indian authorities. One ad showed
a boy and girl, both of whom appeared to be about
12 years old, engaging in a sexual act. Another
showed a man with his arm around a girl, with
text saying he was 52 and the girl was 12. “Click
to watch more,” it said, linking out to a
Telegram channel. The BBC reported an advert to
Instagram showing a very young girl in tears,
with wording indicating that she had been
sexually assaulted. But 24 hours later, Instagram
replied saying it hadn’t removed the advert
because “our review team found that the
advertiser’s ad does not go against our community standards”.

starting with appointing a chief of staff.

Makerfield MP has essentially handed the keys of
no 10 to James Purnell. Friend of Israel and

chairperson of the lobby group, Labour Friends of
Israel (LFI). He was also, until recently, the
chief executive of lobby group Flint Global,
which counts BP, Amazon, Jaguar Land Rover and
Uber among its clients. Flint has also previously
advised Thames Water. As Ranjan Balakumaran said:
This appointment exposes the absolute hypocrisy
behind Burnham’s carefully managed rhetoric on
devolution and public control. Before he even
steps foot inside Number Ten, we must demand a
full, unvarnished list of all James Purnell’s
corporate conflicts of interest­because right
now, devolution and reindustrialization is the
bait, and corporate capture is the switch. The
most bizarre thing Purnell ever got caught up in
while in politics was a scandal involving a
doctored press photo. In 2007, it emerged that
Purnell was pasted into a photocall at a local
hospital after arriving late. The hospital said
they did so with his consent. The MP originally
corroborated this story. However, when it became
clear it was a fake he denied it. On air with
Look North West he was confronted with the
hospital’s statement that he consented. He
brushed it off as a misunderstanding. Architect
of cruel DWP cuts Purnell was also Secretary of
State for the Department for Work and Pensions
(DWP) under Gordon Brown. During his two years
there, he was the architect of Labour’s
discriminatory ‘contributory principle’ on
benefits, which massively screwed over those who
couldn’t work or ‘contribute’. Purnell voted
repeatedly for tougher rules around benefits. He
championed the welfare reform bill of 2009, which
made benefits harder to claim and tied welfare to
work. He also voted for and was involved with the
introduction of Employment Support Allowance to
replace Incapacity Benefit. This led to the
introduction of the cruel Work Capability
Assessment. As a result, there were stricter
criteria for those too sick to work. In 2011,
Purnell told Newsnight that he wanted to cut
‘little freebies’ such as the Winter Fuel
Allowance and free bus passes for pensioners. He
argued they should be means-tested. He also said
these should be included only in the state
pension. Cruelly, he also attempted to put
interest rates of up to 26.8% per annum on crisis
loans, which, of course, had always been
interest-free. This eventually had to be blocked
by Brown. He also supported conditionality and
sanctions, which placed restrictions on benefit
claimants and punished them for ridiculous reasons…

Journalism has been dumbed down. What finally
brought Starmer down: Two MPs ejected from
Commons for accusing Keir Starmer of ‘lying’ over
Mandelson Lee Anderson and Zarah Sultana were
both ordered to leave the chamber by Commons
Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle. Reform UK MP Lee
Anderson and Your Party’s Zarah Sultana have both
been removed from the House of Commons for
accusing Sir Keir Starmer of lying during a
statement from the Prime Minister on the
appointment of Lord Peter Mandelson as US
ambassador.

Later Ms Sultana refused Sir Lindsay’s initial
offer to depart after calling Sir Keir a
“bare-faced liar”. She faced the procedure of
being “named” by the Commons Speaker. This can
lead to a suspension. The House of Commons’ rules
prevent MPs from accusing one another of telling
lies, or deliberately misleading one another. Mr
Anderson, the MP for Ashfield, told the Commons
that Sir Keir had “been lying” during the Lord
Mandelson saga. He told the Commons: “The problem
the Prime Minister’s got is no one believes him.
The public don’t believe him. The MPs on this
side of the House don’t believe him. His own
gullible backbenchers don’t believe him. “So does
the Prime Minister agree with me, he’s been
lying?” Sir Lindsay intervened to ask Mr Anderson
to withdraw his comments. He said: “Sorry, we
don’t use those words, and I’m sure the member’s
withdrawn it.” Mr Anderson replied: “Mr Speaker,
I have the greatest respect for you and your
office, but I will not withdraw it. That man
couldn’t lie straight in bed.” Sir Lindsay said:
“Mr Anderson, you’ll have to leave.” Meanwhile Ms
Sultana, a former Labour Party MP who resigned
from Labour and co-founded Your Party in July
last year, went further as she accused him of
“gaslighting the nation”. She said: “We all know
that the Prime Minister appointed Mandelson
because he owes his job to him. He appointed him,
he defended him, and now he claims to know
nothing. “He is gaslighting the nation. So let’s
call this out for what it is. The Prime Minister
is a bare-faced liar.” Sir Lindsay said: “Leave
now, I’ll name you otherwise, I’d go now if I
were you. “I’ve given the option to name. I’d
leave if I were you, very quickly.” Ms Sultana
attempted to interject and said: “I have a duty
to the House to tell the truth.” Sir Lindsay then
held a vote, brought by Government whip Gen
Kitchen which said: “I beg to move that Zarah
Sultana be suspended from the services of the House.”

Clashes With Zia Yusuf In BBC Question Time Bias

Question Time host Fiona Bruce defended the
show’s audience balance after Reform UK
spokesperson Zia Yusuf claimed the studio crowd
was unrepresentative, explaining the BBC’s
vetting procedures and noting that many viewers
do not publicly declare their political
allegiance on-air.

Zia Yusuf after he suggested the show’s audience
was not balanced. Reform UK’s home affairs
spokesman complained after only eight people put
their hands up when he asked who supported the
party. But Bruce hit back by insisting the BBC
was “scrupulous” in ensuring the make-up of the
audience represented wider public opinion. After
one audience member said Nigel Farage should
never be prime minister, Yusuf said to Bruce:
“You did ask earlier who supports Reform, and I
make out four people in the audience put their
hands up, which is interesting given Reform is at
28% in the polls. “It’s a genuine question, can
we get a show of hands from people who actually
support Reform?” When several people put their
hands up, Bruce told him: “I think you’ll see
that’s a bit more than four.” Yusuf said: “I make
that eight. It’s certainly nowhere close to
representative I’m afraid, Fiona.” But Bruce told
him: “Can I just point out there are more people
than that in the audience, they’re just not
putting their hands up.” Yusuf said: “We’ll all
have to take the BBC’s word for that.” In
response, Bruce said the corporation was
“scrupulous” in ensuring the Question Time
audience is balanced. “I’m certainly not lying
about it, I can tell you that,” she said. When
Yusuf then asked “where’s the evidence”, the
presenter replied: “As you know, we interview
everybody over the phone, we check their social
media. “But what also happens is not everyone
wants to put their hand up and show their
political allegiance on national television, and
there is nothing I can do about that, I’m afraid.”

sweltering day, another hot weather record
broken. As anyone who lived through it will tell
you, 1976 was an unforgettable summer heatwave –
given it was so unusual. But just five decades
on, in the 2020s, those record temperatures
arrive every summer, every year, several times
per year. On Wednesday, the Met Office said it
was the hottest June day ever recorded in the UK
as overnight temperatures stayed above 23C. Then
on Thursday the record was broken again. And it
was a hat trick on Friday – as a temperature of
37.3C was recorded in Santon Downham, Suffolk.
This extreme heat is here to stay and it’s only
going to get worse before it gets better, thanks
to the rapid pace of global warming. But
politicians like Ed Miliband need to realise that
his net zero plans to tackle this crisis are
simply out of reach for all but the most wealthy
– and that should worry everyone. Solar panels,
EVs and heat pumps are all good ideas. If we
could wave a magic wand and switch every home in
the UK to solar panels and heat pumps with an EV
in the driveway, it would massively reduce the
country’s carbon emissions and equip everyone
with the tools to fight the causes of climate
change and protect us from the effects in the
meantime. EVs can recharge at home for a couple
of quid from increasingly renewable electricity
sources, or for free from your solar, not running
from £100 tanks of fossilised dinosaur liquid
which converts into carbon pollution on the go.
Solar panels literally get free energy from the
sun to power everything in your house and pay for
themselves within a few years. The problem is
most UK households can’t afford to go green.
Somehow, we’ve ended up in a situation where
saving the planet just isn’t cost effective – and
in true ‘two tier’ style it’s the poorest who
will suffer the most. The average cost to buy
even a second-hand EV is between £10,000 and
£20,000, according to car dealership Dick Lovett.
That doesn’t sound horrific, but that’s still far
beyond what many drivers can afford, especially
the very old, the very young, and the very
put-upon low income families. These drivers are
buying an old petrol Peugeot for £2,000 to £5,000
and when it breaks, they’ll do the same again.

Dave Wetzel’s ‘Fares Fair’ initiative helped them
win the 1981 GLC election. They got straight to
it, cutting all bus and underground fares by a
third, using a small increase in the ‘rates’ tax
of every householder in London to pay for it.
Public transport in London had received its
biggest ever political boost.

were taking the first steps in their plan for
free public transport for Londoners. Side by side
with their ‘Just the Ticket’ initiative the GLC
also introduced the now indispensable travelcard,
giving London’s travelling public daily or weekly
unlimited intermodal travel for the first time
ever. The ‘Travelcard’ gave holders access to
buses and the underground system. British Rail
trains were added with the ‘Capitalcard’. The
move was based on the reasoning that cars were
receiving disproportionate subsidy from central
government compared to the congestion they cause.
Public transport was overpriced but
under-resourced, so it needed local government
support to help it compete with private cars.
Practically this meant London Transport and the
GLC had to put bums on empty seats. A long-term
plan People’s travelling habits take a long time
to change. If bus fares go down we’re not going
to give up the car overnight, if at all, but even
during Fares Fair’s first year it was a roaring
success. Millions of Londoners chose to leave
their cars at home and, since London is the hub
of the national public transport network, the
idea looked set to spread across the nation.
Details of the scheme were masterminded by Sir
Peter Maesfield, Chair of London Transport
Executive, who proudly watched passengers
flocking to the tubes and the buses in their
droves. His off-peak fare scheme meant that the
overall passenger load was spread, poorer

capacity. Fares Fair threatened the interests of

was not well. The roads lobby: oil companies,
haulage industry, car and lorry manufacturers,

possibility of free public transport for London.
Their interests were under serious threat. So the
travelling public’s enthusiasm for the scheme was
matched only by the panic in the ivory towers of
industry. Followed automatically by the wrath of
right-wing politicians and the tabloid press.
Suddenly every other headline warned the public
to beware the profligate evils of ‘Red Ken’
Livingstone. The Tories rallying cry: ‘get Red
Ken!’ There were a few exceptions, Croydon’s Tory
leader, Peter Bowness, supported Fares Fair, but
the overwhelming majority of Tories fought to
out-do each other in support of their corporate
backers. Michael Hesletine at the Department of
the Environment immediately clawed back
£119million of the GLC’s transport grant and
Norman Fowler at the Department of Transport
creamed £20million off the GLC’s train subsidy.
On top of this the previous Tory GLC
administration under Horace Cutler had left
Livingstone with a £26million deficit which he
was determined to clear. These acts of political
spoiling made the scheme less financially viable
than it should have been. Yet still it looked
like it could continue to work and the GLC
pressed ahead. But the Tories has one final trick
up their sleeve. Peter Bowness’s neighbour,
Dennis Barkway, and Bromley Council’s Tories,
thought they might stop the GLC in the courts.
Because Fowler had temporarily scuppered GLC
plans to include British Rail in Fares Fair,
ratepayers in areas with BR rather than
underground services, like Bromley, would only be
able to take advantage of the resulting reduction
of bus fares, not underground. Fare’s Fair is
unfair on Bromley, Barkway might have protested.
Over lunch in the ‘Bird in Hand’ pub Gravel Road,
one Sunday in July 1981 Barkway and the Bromley
wreckers first resolved to stop Fares Fair.
Barkway received the nod from Council solicitor
Richard Pugh and a special committee was set up
to mastermind the legal challenge, with cllrs.
Fred David, Philip Jones and Simon Randall
joining Barkway. ‘Vandals In Ermine’ (Dave
Wetzel) The case began at the divisional court on
October 28th 1981. Acknowledging that the
proposal had been a central plank in Labour’s
election victory Mr. Justice McNeill gave
judgment saying “these things must be decided in
the hustings”. He stressed the importance of
separating Politics from the Judiciary and
asserted that the law must never be used for
political ends. Lord Justice Dunn and Mr. Justice
Phillips dismissed the case on November 3rd with
costs paid by the council. At this stage the
council had could already be accused of wasting
ratepayers money on anti-social court action. How
then did they feel confident enough to take the
case to appeal, knowing that costs here could top
£200,000. The appeal was heard swiftly. On
November 10th Lord Justice Oliver and Lord
Justice Watkins ruled the fares cut and the
supplementary rate unlawful. The final judgment
would have to be the house of lords.

as of the end of 2025. Many people who are in
temporary accommodation and social housing face
moving into the space with zero to little
furniture. Homewards is setting out to tackle the
issue with a £2.3 million partnership bringing
repurposed furniture to those in social housing.

The Multibank, B&Q, Bosch Home Appliances, DFS
Group, Howdens and IKEA to furnish 42 homes so
far, with a target of 250 by the end of the programme.

the EU’s single market?” Across all categories,
including education level, sex and region, a
majority of those polled said they would not want

King Charles will protect a multi faith nation.
King Charles Redefines Role Of Monarchy King
Charles has broken his coronation oath to defend
the Christian faith In a little-noticed change to
his official accounts, King Charles appears to
have revised his pledge to “defend the faith”.
Former Chaplain to the Queen Gavin Ashenden gives
his view on what it means When King Charles made
public his accounts this week, he surreptitiously
slipped into the document a quite significant
change.

a few amended lines in the Sovereign Grant Annual
Report, the duties of the monarchy have been
covertly changed. The King’s title as “Defender
of the Faith” has been replaced by “Protector of
the Space for Faith within the Multi-faith
Nation.” One of the first questions that arises
is whether he has the power to change the
coronation oath that he swore. Since the monarchy
is a creation of parliament, and the oath he
swore was part of the settlement in 1688, there
is no constitutional evidence that he is in a
position to amend it. In fact by doing so, it
looks like an attempt to change his oath, which
becomes a matter of oath-breaking. It’s up to
parliament to decide whether or not they are
sufficiently concerned about the way they have
constructed the constitutional monarchy we live
under, but it has raised a series of anxieties,
ranging from questioning King Charles’ integrity,
to asking what exactly a multi-faith space looks
like. This is, after all, a new job title that
the King has given himself. Invading the safe
space It’s certainly true that the people of this
United Kingdom now comprise a series of different
faiths. But what does the idea of a “space for
faith” mean? Christians are committed, by their
obedience to Jesus, to penetrate the space for
faith with the good news about the love of Christ
for all humanity, so that Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs,
Buddhists and Zoroastrians can be given the
opportunity to weigh the claims of Christ. When
Jesus told his followers to go out into the world
carrying the news of the Kingdom in order to
convert people and transform society, this was an
injunction to invade the safe space of the
multi-faith environments they lived in. Why would
the King, as defender of the Christian faith,
want to change the priorities that Christ gave to his followers?

this island to invade the multi-faith space with
the good news of Jesus, this island would have
remained pagan. On what basis would that
constitute an improvement for the people of this
island in the eyes of the King?

problem is that Islam is equally ambitious to
invade the safe space of a multi-faith
environment. Muhammed divided the world into two
areas. They are the Dar al-Islam (House of
Islam), where Islamic law prevails, and the Dar
al-Harb (House of War), where it does not.
Muhammad invites his followers to pierce the zone
of multi-faith with the call to submission and
even sanctioned violence. In Surah 9, verse 29,
he invited Muslims to fight those who do not
believe until they are overcome and pay the jizya
tax. Islam and Christianity are both committed,
as a matter of obedience to their founders’
vision, to piercing the sanctity of the King’s
proposed zone of multi-faith safety. It’s not
altogether clear that other religions would be
willing to observe a hermetic seal between their
own practices and other people’s beliefs.
Buddhists are often only too happy to explain the
path to enlightenment as the Buddha taught it,
also proactively piercing the sanctity of
Charles’s multi-faith safe space. So where does
the idea of a safe space in a multi-faith
environment come from? And why is it so important
to King Charles that he’s prepared to abandon his
commitment to Christ, the Church of England and
the Christian culture of his country? Most people
trace it to his regard for the psychologist Karl
Gustav Jung and ideas that Charles first
encountered from his tutor, Laurens van der Post.
Jung considered religion to be a psychological
phenomenon, useful in creating a symbolic
language that allowed consciousness and
unconsciousness to integrate independently of the
content of the religious belief. The idea of a
multi faith safe space, in Charles mind at least,
perhaps originates from him. So we have a king
who has deserted Christian allegiance, turned his
back on his coronation oath, repudiated the
support and promotion of a Christian culture, and
wants to impose this Jungian template, designed
to achieve the elusive goal of personal
integration, or ‘individuation’ on all other religions.

FASCIST EU CENSORSHIP 1: EU crackdown on Russian
media. German Courts Make Sharing of Russia Today
material a CRIME!! Maria Zakharova: On July 2,
the EU Court of Justice handed down a judgment
concerning the lawfulness of criminal
prosecutions within European Union member states
against individuals who make materials from media
outlets banned within the EU territory available
in the public domain via their internet resources
– effectively treating such individuals on a par
with telecommunications operators.

terms, this judgment applies primarily to those
distributing content from RT and other Russian
media outlets against whom Brussels has imposed
so-called sanctions. Moreover, as indicated in
the press release issued by the Court, this
approach applies irrespective of whether
materials from the “banned” media are
retransmitted for the purpose of deriving
commercial gain or otherwise. The impetus for
this judgment arose from criminal proceedings
initiated in Germany against three German
nationals, accused of repeatedly reposting video
materials from the RT DE channel on their
publicly accessible website. ?? Notably, it was
not the content of the specific publications that
was deemed unlawful, but solely their origin. In
order to lend an appearance of legitimacy to this
process – a process that utterly fails to conform
to the principles of the rule of law – the German
authorities sought an opinion of the highest
echelons of the European Union’s judicial system,
the Court of Justice of the European Union, and
ultimately secured its endorsement for the
continuation and expansion of the methods of such
show-trials. The precedent thus established
grants carte blanche to the authorities of any
member state within the bloc to carry out mass
repression against ordinary residents who hold
their own view of world events – a view that
diverges from the narrative imposed from above.
We characterise this judgment, along with the
practices of persecuting dissenters that it
legitimises, as a gross violation by the EU and
its member states of their international
obligations in the sphere of the protection and
promotion of fundamental human rights, including
the right to unhindered access to information and
freedom of expression. This judgment stands as
yet another unmistakable example of the European
Union’s mockery of justice designed to whitewash
the bloc’s degeneration into a space
characterised by the most severe political
censorship, legal arbitrariness, and hypocrisy.
At its core lies the intent to instil a reflexive
fear among citizens of the European Union’s
member states towards any sources of information
“not authorised” by Brussels, to seal off
societies within information “bubbles” impervious
to inconvenient truths, and to deprive them of
the ability to form an independent opinion
regarding events and processes of significance to
their lives. This latest step taken by the EU
towards totalitarian censorship, the exacerbation
of antagonism, and the dismantling of the
democratic foundations of society must receive a
proper assessment from the relevant multilateral
institutions. Otherwise, silence on their part
would be difficult to interpret as anything other
than solidarity with the actions of the European
bureaucracy, and acquiescence in the further
perpetuation of this pernicious practice.

press conferences. Don’t publish online against
EU values! EU’s New Creator Press Passes Come
With a Loyalty Test Brussels is vetting cameras
for loyalty and calling it press freedom in the
same breath. The Council of the European Union
has decided that from July, online creators can
attend EU summits and ministerial meetings to
make videos for YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.
Fine. But the guidance to member states includes
one odd instruction: don’t pick anyone who has
“published views against EU values.” What are EU
values?

will say. That’s the useful thing about a vague
rule. You can point it wherever you like and
never have to justify it. Posted something
awkward about migration? Wondered whether the
euro was a good idea? Suggested the Commission
gets things wrong? Possibly against EU values,
possibly not, depending on who’s reading your
back catalog that morning. There’s no list of
banned opinions or a review. An official just
looks through your old posts and makes a call.
Now imagine them trying this on actual
journalists. Guidance that said: nominate
reporters to cover the summit, but exclude any
who’ve expressed views against EU values. The
newspapers would lose their minds, and Brussels
knows it, which is exactly why it would never
write that sentence down for the press corps.
Journalists come with a long tradition of being a
nuisance to power, and a fair number of lawyers
to back it up. Creators don’t have that armor.
There’s no press freedom group ready to defend
some bloke with 200,000 followers who makes
explainer videos about the Council. So the EU
runs an opinion test, files it under “eligibility
criteria,” and assumes nobody will notice it’s
the same thing it would never ask of a reporter.
Which leaves the EU with an awkward question. Is
a free press one of these “values” or not? If it
is, the rule contradicts itself, because the
whole point of a free press is being able to
publish views against you. You can’t vet your
reporters for loyalty and call it press freedom
in the same breath. And if a free press isn’t on
the list, then they’ve told you what’s actually
on it by what they left off. An institution that
believed in free expression wouldn’t reach for an
opinion test at all. Sorting the approved from
the unapproved. What you get isn’t a press pool
so much as a fan club with lanyards. The
politicians who said anything were the ones
already out of favor. Belgium’s Gerolf Annemans,
a Vlaams Belang MEP, went for sarcasm: “I would
go even further: nothing should be allowed to be
questioned.” Lucas Hartong, formerly a Dutch MEP
for the PVV, was drier, noting that “the EU and
genuine democracy don’t exactly go hand in hand.”
The Sweden Democrats said the whole thing showed

required is forcing technology companies to
abandon dangerous algorithms and predatory
design. The consultation the government conducted
was a transparent sham with slanted questions
designed to give a veneer of public support to
its authoritarian plans. Concerns over depriving
children of a fundamental freedom and over
effectiveness have been brushed aside. Two things
are going on here. First the sinking ship of the
Labour government is desperately looking for
ploys to make itself less unpopular. Secondly it
is trying to engineer a back door for tighter
government control over citizens’ access to the
internet and to slide in Digital ID. Under the
proposed legislation adults will have to “prove”
their age, whereupon we shall end up with
intrusive facial recognition and/or Digital ID.
All this rather than make efforts to moderate
content better and let families do the job of
safeguarding children, not an authoritarian
state. A ban lets lax parents off the hook. The
Workers Party is the party of personal freedom
and the family, we would never trust a government
which on the one hand claims to be so concerned
about children that it will introduce a draconian
social media ban, and which on the other presides
over, indeed enthusiastically helped instigate, a
state system whereby baby Preston was handed over
to two perverts to use as their sexual toy and
rape to death. Our children are too important to
leave their safety to such State and such a government.

BBC radio long wave stopped. BBC Longwave
broadcasts remain vital amid calls to halt
planned switch off As the BBC prepares to switch
off its longwave transmissions in 2025 ­ marking
the end of a century of broadcasting history ­ a
new report is urging a dramatic rethink. In
“Still Speaking to the Nations”, researcher Dr.
Tobias Thornes lays out a robust case for keeping
BBC Radio 4’s longwave service alive.

analogue output power. In fact, FM networks

Moreover, analogue radios ­ especially longwave ­
use far less energy than digital radios, smart
speakers, or internet-connected devices. But it’s
not just about the environment. The report
highlights the crucial role of longwave in
national security. In an age of cyber threats and
misinformation, longwave remains the only
platform that can reach the entire UK ­ and much
of Europe ­ from a single transmitter, even
during power cuts or internet outages. And while
some dismiss longwave as obsolete, the report
says it’s anything but. It’s still relied on by
rural communities, seafarers, and those with
limited digital access. The Shipping Forecast, a
maritime staple for a century, still depends on
the 198 kHz signal. Yet, the BBC has never
surveyed those rural or seafaring groups to
understand their listening habits. There’s also a
strong heritage argument. 2025 marks 100 years
since the BBC first broadcast on longwave.
Campaigners want to see the Droitwich transmitter
­ which began broadcasting in 1934 ­ protected as
a historic site. A petition to save longwave has
already gathered nearly 5,000 signatures, with
listeners from across the UK and Europe
describing it as a “lifeline” and “a vital backup
in emergencies.” Dr. Thornes concludes that
ending longwave would not only risk leaving
millions without reliable radio access ­ it could
also weaken the UK’s emergency broadcast
resilience. He calls on the BBC and the government to reconsider.
