Subject: TIA Seed Fund Application for 2018 to 2019

To: Vice Deans: Research and HODs: Please share this information with all academic staff as well as students in your respective departments.

TIA Seed Fund Call for Applications for 2018/2019

The objectives of the TIA Seed Fund Programme (for HEI’s) are:

 

1                  To assist Higher Education Institutions to advance their research outputs and ideas to develop prototypes, proof of concept and business cases that could be used for further development;

2                  To de-risk research outputs by enabling the entrepreneur and researcher in getting them closer to securing follow-on funding from TIA and/or other funders.


Parameters:


1                  Grant funding up to R 650 000-00 per application;

2                  Technology Readiness Level 3 to 7 (no basic research) – see Table 4 on Page 3 and 4;

3                  Projects must be for a duration of 12 months, but can be extended to a maximum of 18 months.

Criteria:


1                  Quality nd completeness of the application/s;

2                  Market need, stage of development, planned fundable activities, team’s ability to execute the project within the stipulated timeline;

3                  The socio-economic impact of the project, contribution to solving the societal challenges/decent standard of living as per NDP; and

4                  The likelihood of receiving follow-on funding from TIA (i.e. pipeline) or any other funder once the goals have been achieved.

Attached is the “Seed Fund Application Form” – to be completed by applicants and submitted to the undersigned by no later than Friday, 2 November 2018 at 13:00.
