Dear Colleagues,
Well known to us all, Mr Nazeem Ansary serves as Head of Department (HoD): Construction Management and Quantity Surveying, Doornfontein Campus (DFC). Mr Ansary is a Registered Professional Quantity Surveyor (PrQS). Mr Ansary is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Building (FCIOB) as well as a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (FRICS); this also allows for our global reputation management.
Programmes in this academic department are accredited through two (2) entities: South African Council for Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) and South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession (SACQSP); both professional councils have successfully accredited our academic programmes.
Furthermore, while the department is small in staff number, the department has a rather large impact; the department has produced over 50 units / year (research outputs) in 2014 and 2015; this trend continues to grow. Researchers of this department feature both in the faculty and university top-10.
Enabled by the UJ procedure for appointing HoDs, the selection panel swiftly deliberated on this renewal matter in early Oct. 2016; the panel recommended Mr Ansary’s renewal as HoD – 1 Jan. 2017 (regular appointment term of three years).
Through Mr Ansary, we’re looking forward to a continued approach of excellence through teaching, learning, research and innovation in the Department of Construction Management and Quantity Surveying, the broader School of Civil Engineering and the Built Environment (SOCEBE), Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment (FEBE).
Our message is furthermore and routinely communicated as follows:
(1) Broader Department: through Prof Stephen Ekolu, Head: SOCEBE;
(2) Broader Faculty: through the Faculty Board, Sept. 2016; through associated standing committees of the Faculty;
(3) Broader community and family of the University of Johannesburg (UJ): Through the Senate meeting, Mar. 2017 and through the UJ Division: Advancement (Strategic Communications).
Sincerely,
Saurabh

Dear Colleagues,
With approximately half a decade of service as Head of Department: Civil Engineering Science (Auckland Park Kingsway Campus (APK)), Prof Felix Okonta’s HoD term ends in Dec. 2016; we are writing to thank Prof Okonta for his leadership.
Prof Okonta’s leadership has seen a continued progress in research outputs. The Civil Engineering Science (CES) programme in the department remains accredited. A number of professional society achievements also come to mind – among others, the 2016 South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE) Student Chapter of the Year award.
As per the procedure for appointing HoDs – a selection panel met in early Oct. 2016; the committee recommended the appointment of Dr Maria Ferentinou. The appointment has received the support of DVC: Academic, Prof Angina Parekh (Oct. 2016).
Similar to Prof Okonta, Dr Ferentinou’s background is in Geotechnical Engineering. With approximately 20 years of service in academia and industry, nationally and internationally, Dr Maria Ferentinou has recently joined the University of Johannesburg and brings new leadership to the APK Department of Civil Engineering Science. Dr Ferentinou is also registered as a Professional Natural Scientist with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP).
We’re pleased to welcome HoD Dr Maria Ferentinou, Civil Engineering Science, as of 1 Jan. 2017 (regular appointment term of three years).
Through Dr Ferentinou, we’re looking forward to a renewed approach of excellence through teaching, learning, research and innovation in the Department of Civil Engineering Science, the broader School of Civil Engineering and the Built Environment (SOCEBE), Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment (FEBE).
Our message is furthermore and routinely communicated as follows:
