Hey Ho it's .... .... ... .. Sunday;
Hasn't the weather been kind to us? You don't expect April to be so
pleasant, even though the wind made things a little chilly and the
frosts at night were very fierce.
Talking to Jonathon the Forest Ranger he said that the one sharp frost
we had last June had killed the buds on the Oak trees and there were
very few acorns last winter. The poor squirrels starved to death and
they are so reduced in number that so far I've only spotted one.
The peanuts I put out on the bird table must have saved her from the
fate of the others, I remember that once we had run out of bird food and
Grannie Annie suggested putting out some dry roasted ones that we had
bought.
At just after 5am the following morning we heard a rattle on the side of
the caravan, not Mollie the old warhorse but the squirrel throwing the
nuts at the window. A quick restocking of the table with Macs biscuits
restored the situation and when she did pop round Mollie polished the
peanuts off just to oblige. ;-)
Ne'er cast a clout until the month of May is out was mams usual adage
but did it mean the May blossoms which decorate the hedges like a fine
ladies petticoats ? I rather think it might.
I found some cheeky flowers, pretty little Forget-me-nots all around our
woodland glade they peek through the longer grass at the boles of the
trees and under the Blackberry bushes which protect them from preying
Donkies. Not that Donks are easily put off they are gobbling the tender
Holly shoots like there is no tomorrow.
The teachings of Chairman Brown on Wednesday didn't do a lot for
pensioners and the disabled, I think the strategy of keeping them on the
breadline is inherently wrong. The link with incomes must be restored
that should make them take a place that they have rightfully earned in
our society. Even a bus pass is of little value with the restrictions
and conditions placed on the users. Not for nothing is it known as the
Twirly pass from the expression " Sorry love you're too early".
Travel should be free for the aged and infirm throughout the EU,
pensions should be equalised as should disability benefits. I'm a firm
believer in Europe but the old folk have been getting a raw deal for
decades. Perhaps we should go on strike, refuse to accept the pittance
grudgingly given. Mahatma Ghandi had it right, don't fill in the stupid
forms they send.
One sent to me this week said that if I die before Grannie Annie I can
leave her my pension rights, they had found this out by checking their
records. Perhaps they should check again.
How sad that the Middle East continues to bring religions against each
other, that the terrorists sought refuge in the Church in Bethlehem
dedicated to Jesus birth. Is there something evil which lives in that
melting pot of religion? Perhaps there is, the Christians, Israelites
and Muslims could live together in peace if each followed their own
teaching, is it just the greed of men misinterpreting the words of thier
creed ?
I got a phone call on Saturday from Laura, she was using the mobile
phone I bought for her at Christmas. Thank you for the Chocolate coins
she said, " Yes thank you Grandad shouted Lizzie I'll use some in my
dance routine."
Then later that day they rang to say they had wone more medals than ever
before and the Sunday results were just as good.
How proud Grannie Annie would have been to hear them say "We did our
best because we loved Grandma Jean and this was her special day". It
lifted my thoughts and filled my heart with love. How good it is to be a
grandparent.
Mr Mac is talking about the walk he is going to have, breakfast of Oak
Smoked Kippers and Douwe Egberts will have to wait.
Hey Mac, there's supposed to be a human on one end of that lead come
ba........
