Sorry if this didn't arrive on Sunday, pleasse accept my apologies

Hey Ho it's ...... .... Sunday;

The winter gloom dispelled we celebrated Collop Monday, slices of potato
fried in dripping. On Tuesday we flipped pancakes and ate them covered
in lemon juice and sugar. On Wednesday we had a hash, I know it was Ash
Wednesday but Mac likes a good stew.
On Thursday we got all worked up as we waited for the post and our
Valentine cards arrived. Now I suppose I should have suspected something
by the writing and the postmark but Mac had one from Lymington, a lovely
bitch called Trafi he walked around the headland.
Mine was a lovely one, I recognised the handwriting on that too. In four
weeks we shall be heading south to meet our Valentines, I hope the
postie delivered mine ? You did get one I suppose ? If not then you can
have this one @ http://www.bub.ble.org.uk/ ( Don't tell anyone I told
you 'cos it's not from me .)
The week ended as it began, with the funeral of Princess Margaret Rose.
How different from that of her father King George VI fifty years ago on
the same date. The Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeths accession to the
throne. A family, like any other family, wept for their loss. The Queen
Mother, glimpsed as she arrived through the window of her car ! Her
photo on the web version this week.

But winter is abating, the winds have wrought havoc, the rain has webbed
our feet and wrinkled our skin. Spring is showing an early sign with the
snowdrops pushing through the wind blown rubbish at the foot of the
hedge. The mulberry bush is budding, forsythia and catkins rushing to
catch the primulas in beautiful array.

A time for looking to the future, remembering the glories of the past
and hoping for happy days again. It's my aunt Emilys birthday tomorrow,
she's 88 and bright as a button, my mothers youngest sister and a carbon
copy in looks. On Thursday another aunt will be 85. Greta is living in a
nursing home, she is ill now, the illness brings me memories with its
trail of jaundice.
But memories are not all sad, I talked to Charlie, our Jack of Hearts
and promised I'd tidy the hedgrow where he lives, the gnomes on the
rockery and the dwarf daffies close at hand. We need dwarf plants like
grape hyacynth, crocus and primula because at this height in the
pennines the other kind grow horizontal in the wind.

Familiarity breeds contempt, a thought for this past week as two spin
doctors manage to ruin each others careers. But what of the facts ? How
did a confidential email end up in 'The Sun', how was the content leaked
? Perhaps we should be made aware, after all these people, our servants,
hold confidential information on us all. Perhaps we should be told. We
pay these people magnificently to secure their loyalty, and they are
almost impossible to sack.
Who watches the watchers ?

Mac goes for his stitches out on monday, I'm taking a muzzle. Another
week of walkies in the garden and then he can roll on his field again.

Kedgeree and kippers today, bogof at Tesco, washed down with milkie
Douwe Egberts

Got to go.
