Chief Illiniwek MUST GO!!! He's derogatory to Native Americans.

IMO, Illiniwek is the most disturbing of the mascots because he looks real.
He's not some characiture like the Cleveland Indians mascot. He may not be
as overtly racist as the Redskins name, but he still portrays N. Americans
in a negative way.

I think it's high time U of I stopped cowering to their old white, racist
donators and did something to make the community proud. There are plenty of
new names to choose from.

Who thinks Illiniwek is actually a decent portrayal of a N. American and
why? I'd love to hear this...

Here's one native American (born 1933 in Florida) who doesn't give a
good shit about the Uof I (or any other, for that matter) mascot. If
you're offended by such as that, I suggest that you need to get a life
and concern yourself with matters of real importance instead of
bullshit such as the names of sports and collegiate mascots. Sheesh!
