Islamic Funds Management: Creating Values for Islamic Investment Community
Date / Day : 25 July 2011 Time : 3.30 – 5.50 pm Venue : Intercontinental Hotel, Kuala Lumpur
The range and variety of recently launched
Islamic investment funds evidence a dynamic and rapid assimilation of Islamic
financing techniques to market opportunities. As a consequence, funds have been
structured in sectors as diverse as real estate, high-tech industries, private
equity, aviation, shipping and major infrastructure focusing on power, water
and transportation projects. Some of the most recent developments witness
attempts to create a class of Islamic hedge funds.
Although Islamic finance is a burgeoning sector, the Islamic investor community
still remains relatively small with a limited number of major participants. Any
party attempting to break into this community has to realise that it will take
time, commitment and patience in order to reap the benefits. To date, strong
interests in Islamic investments have been maintained, and this is evident in
the fact that more often than not, the investment instruments are subscribed by
investors beyond the Muslim world. Perhaps the conservative application of debt
contracts as well as the proliferation of other financing relationships have
contributed to this; not to mention the strict aversion to speculative as well
as gambling activities. Any new product, in addition to offering competitive
returns, needs to be well thought out, carefully structured and observant of
Islamic strictures to ensure Shariah credibility.
The Amanie Islamic Investment Forum (AIIF 2011) focuses on helping the Islamic
finance industry, particularly Islamic funds to understand the issues in
relation to the Islamic fund management, in terms of structure, compliance,
performance, distribution and internationalization of funds. The AIIF 2011 also
aims to address the uncertainties in the industry by providing a platform for
all stakeholders to debate and share perspectives on how to bring this Shariah
investment industry forward.
The organiser will host representatives from various investors, fund management
houses and Islamic authorities to participate and interact during this event.
In short, this event seeks to demystify the current issues confronting Islamic
investments in a novel perspective and this shall be presented in a practical
manner by the practitioners themselves. The key objective is to initiate
innovative products and structures in the journey to unlock the potentials of
Islamic investments.
