Shocking Results from Online Safety Survey

Parents should be equally concerned about their children's
online safety and their own. Recently released results from the
Microsoft Computing Safety Index survey, which asked respondents
about the steps they routinely take to protect their security
online, offers a few surprises.

Corporate Espionage Hackers Hit Chemical Industry

Security firm Symantec has uncovered a string a cyber attacks
targeting the chemical industry, which appear to be motivated by
corporate espionage. Between July and September, hackers sought
to collect IP from chemical firms such as design documents,
formulas, and manufacturing processes. The hackers
are not tied solely to the chemical industry and in months past
have also targeted human rights-related NGOs as well as the
motor industry.

600,000 Compromised Facebook Logins Per Day

In a recent infographic from Facebook regarding security, the
social networking company let the world know it faces
approximately 600,000 security threats per day in the form
of "compromised" logins. That's a mere 0.06 percent of the 1
billion logins the site sees per day, although it's still a
sizable number.

F-Secure Anti-Virus 2012 Reviewed

F-Secure achieved good scores in PCMag's hands-on tests and even
better scores from the independent labs. However, getting it
installed on malware-infested systems was difficult, and its
DeepGuard behavior-based detection identified both valid
programs and malware samples as "suspicious."
