Hi Everyone,

With all the work on developing the new product line for Apple's COCOA platform, managing the testing team, ensuring the software is solid, sending updates out to customers... the Google UILIST got no attention. It's been a long road. Services like MailChimp now ensure that every customer is notified of updates via email, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

With little hours for sleep, this the way to go - build it once and deliver it too many places. As the UILIST isn't a part of that ecosystem, and it's rarely used, please follow us on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram and most of all make sure you are subscribed to the email list. This will ensure everyone is up to date. If you missed it, I've included the latest company Email Update below.

(make sure your FastSpring account settings match)

As you know U&I is just Eric and some volunteers and the work load will only increase as the development of the Windows 10 versions of the ArtMatic Creative ToolboX (CTX) 1.0 gets underway in 2 weeks. Plus Eric has to find some time to start work on the new MetaSynth CTX 1.0. It is all a bit daunting! It has also became clear that software testing using Google Groups + Emails is also not a practical way to ensure the quality of products are produced. So, we will be changing to a new platform for issue reporting and tracking. Stay tuned.

This UILIST will remain available to customers as it holds quite a history of U&I knowledge (My dream is to one day merge the UILIST, the WIKI pages, and other sources if U&I wisdom into one documented place, but first things first!) and it will remain open for folks to discuss tips and tricks etc., but also consider visiting this community:

Steve, Peter and Hugh's: "Worlds of ArtMatic" facebook group

Here's to the future!
Kevin

p.s. I wonder who will create the MetaSynth+Xx facebook group?

The Road Ahead.

It’s been awhile since our last update, and the the world changed a lot since then! Want everyone to know that Eric is safe in Paris, and remains focused on programming the new software product releases, but there have been changes. Read on...
.

The Future of U&I Software on the Macintosh Computer

As most of you know, Apple has discontinued support for legacy products built for the CARBON platforms [MacOS 9, MacOS X 10.0 through MacOS 10.13, and sort of MacOS 10.14 (Mojave)].

Apple pitched this transition as easy, it isn’t. Worse yet, customers have been pitched that MacOS 10.15 (Catalina) is just a simple update to MacOS, it isn’t. This transition is similar to the change from MacOS (aka Classic) to NeXT OS (aka MacOS X), or the change from PowerPC processors to Intel processors. Each requiring Eric to rewrite his programs.

There was some discussion of dropping the Apple Macintosh platform and moving all future U&I products to Windows 10 instead.

This is because Microsoft continues to support older applications, and has committed to keeping Windows 10 a stable platform for developers for at least the next decade.

The good news is, Eric is very loyal to his Macintosh customers. Some folks have stuck by him for over 20 years through Apple's seismic changes. So he is committed to rebuilding the current product line for the new Macintosh platform. The bad news is, it has become clear over time that these new programs are new products, and not upgrades.

He has worked for two years on the new ArtMatic applications and their pricing needs to reflect this. U&I runs on a shoestring budget with the support of volunteers so, please know that product decisions like these are not taken lightly. It will take another year of work to complete  all the new products, but they will get done.

See more details regarding the new CTX 1.0 product line below.

Thank you for all your support and be safe out there,

Kevin (and Eric)

The Creative ToolboX (CTX) Product Line

All CTX products are being built for Apple's "COCOA only" Macintosh operating systems such as Catalina and beyond, plus Windows 10 to   ensure years of future use after purchase..

Development Timeline

We are exploring the unknown as we rebuild the applications for COCOA and setbacks have occurred but the ArtMatic CTX products Designer, Explorer, and Voyager are almost here! Final build testing has begun and we expect them to be available by May. Then Eric can turn his attention to rebuilding MetaSynth, then Xx, then V-Quartz to complete CTX line. After each MacOS product is complete, the Windows CTX version will begin development.

Thanks Eric and Kevin - I’m happy to see Metasynth mentioned. I’m sure your other products are great (and I have few), but really I’m just here for Metasynth. Re MS, I go back to pre-commercial ircam days and will gladly pay any upgrade fee.

Thank you Jim. That is appreciated. We have to keep Eric feed for him to continue working!

We should really create a Patreon account for him… (thinking out loud) - K

Hi Everyone,

Wanted to add a couple notes:

Getting Support and Answers
1. Make sure to send any PreSales, TechSupport, and Training questions to: Supp...@uisoftware.com
2. Comments made on social media and in user forums may not be seen and we want to get you answers, make sure to email.

Product Development Roadmap
1. As Eric is one person, all product development has been linear - one after the other.
2. We have a second developer for all Windows 10 versions so that will change a bit.
3. MacOS ("cocoa") versions will be created first, then handed off to the Windows developer.
4. The current 2019-2021 development order is:

- ArtMatic CTX 1.0 (MacOS)
- ArtMatic CTX 1.0 (Windows)
- MetaSynth CTX 1.0 (MacOS)
- MetaSynth CTX 1.0 (Windows)
- Xx CTX 1.0 (MacOS)
- Xx CTX 1.0 (Windows)
- ArtMatic V-Quartz CTX 1.0 (MacOS)
- ArtMatic V-Quartz CTX 1.0 (Windows)

There do remain a lot of unknowns on The Road Ahead as we work to bring Eric's products
to the new MacOS platform and Windows 10.
