Is Xx still being actively developed? It's been quite a while...
I think the tools it offers and the philosophy behind it are great,
and believe that with a little love it could be one of the best
compositional tools out there. At the moment, though, I rarely use it.
The main reasons are:

- Workflow. Xx is begging to be made into a VST. Having to save the
MIDI data, then import it into a DAW is clumsy, slow, and distracts
from the composition process.

- The GUI, which looks and feels very low-res and long in the tooth.
It's true that it's the sound that matters, but when you are
interacting with a software tool for hours, it really makes a
difference when it looks good (see, e.g., Thesys, or any of Rob Papen
or U-he's plugins).

- Miscellaneous - e.g. only one-level of undo is a big limitation in
a tool that is otherwise ideal for creating sketches.

Again, not trying to be harsh here - Xx has great underlying
capabilities, but I do think an update along these lines would make it
a lot more usable.

Hi,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. We are a tiny company. So, unlike bigger companies, we don't actively work on all of our apps simultaneously. We tend to cycle through the family. For a few years, we were focused on MS and XX 5 and the graphics apps were only getting minor tweaks. Right now, the graphics apps are Eric's focus though we did release a nice minor update of both MS and XX and there will be another minor update probably as we finish up working on the current of the graphocs apps.

Best,

Edward

I agree in general with most of the things said here to some extent but the above point would be my single biggest want. Heck, even being able to sync to midi clock would be nice.
VST or Rewire support would get me using Xx a lot more than I do. I really do like Xx a lot and it is great for inspiration, but once I am half way through building a track, tossing and idea into Xx and working on it is just too cumbersome for me.
