Happy New Year everyone!

I had to start the year with something creative.. (made today)

(Softwares used:  Artmatic - Cubic Converter - Pano2VR)

I always liked kaleidoscopes (as a child) and in the days of Artmatic version 1.00 you could make some
pretty good ones. That's what got me hooked into U&I software in around 1996 when I began my sole
trader business. Seems a long time ago.

Am looking forward to getting a new Intel Mac this year (will be much quieter than my G5) and any new
offerings from U&I Software.

Cheers
Paul

Happy New Year Paul, that was very cool indeed!
... when I clicked outside the box I got a $1,500 cash advance!

Hi Paul,

They look great! I was wondering how you got the panos to be seamless? Did you use Artmatic for that
or was it achieved in other apps?

Cheers,

Dick

Hi Dick

I'm glad you like them and have put a comprehensive tutorial together in a
Read Me file complete with all files made along the way. (My Artmatic file is
version 4.8 latest by the way.)

http://www.pgmedia.co.uk/sendfiles/VR-tutorial/VR-tutorial-by-Paul-Gillard.zip

The reason I made a Flash file in the end was simply due to the fact that the
Flash plugin is still more ubiquitous than QT amongst our PC owning friends.

Funny thing.. I once worked for a firm called DALIM gmbh back in around 1995
and at that time they had their software working on an Intel 4337 machine with
100 megs of RAM. Just a little ironic that the Mac OS is on that now (Well for me at least).

I'll delete this tutorial after a couple of weeks by the way, but feel free to distribute it
by email among yourselves if you wish rather than re-hosting it on FTP please.

Regarding the seamless bit, ..as long as everything is centered in Artmatic, you will
get a seamless effect within the cubic VR file without much trouble.

Cheers
Paul

Hi Paul,

thanks for the tutorial. Cool technique!

Well, I haven`t got a licence of the pano apps you are using, so I can`t try it myself.

Btw. Do you know that you can do equirectangular projections in AM?

For instance, if you own the Alien/SciFi sky set it works almost with every sky from the set.

All you have to do is to load one of them into AM, press the Home button, then do a render using a 2/1 ratio...and finally convert it to
a QTVR movie in a dedicated app.

Cheers,

Dick

Hi Dick

You're welcome, and thanks for the reminder about those files I purchased from you a
while ago now from your website.

This prompted me to make a VR file from one of them just now:

(I think the Alien/SciFi sky set is one that everyone should check out if they haven't already done so.)

Cheers
Paul

Thanks for posting the link to my website.

Have seen your example. Looks nice. Unfortunately with Voyager it`s not possible
to make fully 360/180 panoramas (artifacts near 90/-90 degrees). Although you can have a seamless 360 panorama you are limited to maybe 70 degrees vertically (60 degrees up/down)

However what I meant to say was that if you render one of those skies from within AM (press Home button then render in 2/1 ratio) you will get a full 360/180 panorama which you then can convert into
a QTVR movie or whatever.
