Hi

I tried the application AudioFinder from your friends IcedAudio and it
seems pretty useful.
Except I can not drag n´drop audios from AudioFinder to MS5. Is it
possible? It would be good
since the preview of MS5 is a little bit tricky.

Thanks

I find AudioFinder pretty essential now that I have thousands of sounds that I have created with MetaSynth and thousands in my varies sample libraries. Drag and Drop works the same between AudioFinder and MetaSynth as it does between the Finder and MetaSynthl.

Drag an audio file's icon from audio finder onto MetaSynth's icon in the Dock and it will open the file. If this isn't working for you, what is the file type? Is it a file that you can drop onto the MetaSynth icon successfully in the Finder?

You can also add MetaSynth as a known Audio Editor to Audio Finder using the Tools Setup command in File->Open With submenu.

Question: In what way is preview within MS5 "tricky"?

Best,

Edward

Hi Edward

Thanks again for your quick answer.

Sorry but it doesn´t work. DnD acts strange in MS5. There are some files that MS loads and others that don´t load.
I can not find a pattern (audio file/sample rate/bit depth).

On other way making MS5 the sample editor of AudioFinder is great : )

Preview in MS5 is not very good for a super fast search since it doesn´t permit stopping and advance search. I must
wait for the player to stop.

Thanks again

Whether it works or not depends on whether the file has the correct type and/or file extension. Please give some examples of file names that don't work and what kind of file they are. If there is a problem, we need specifics. MetaSynth would be able to open any .aif or .wav file or .caf file by drag and drop if they have those extensions -- even if the file type isn't set. Capitalization is important so .wav will drag-drop but not .WAV (unless the file type has been set).

If you have supported files (aif, wav, caf, sound designer 2 or mp3) that MetaSynth doesn't open, please let us know.

To stop the preview, just click on another file in the file list and playback stops immediately.

Edward

In this case the 48KHz loaded and the 44.1 not.

But I follow your advice and bought AudioFinder. Great!!! Open MS5 in Audio Finder and vice-versa is top of tops!!!

Thanks once again for you help

That is very mysterious. Drag/drop is done by the finder rather than MetaSynth and sample rate isn't something that the Finder looks at.

Are you sure that there is not another difference between the files?

What is the file extension of the file that does not drag/drop?

What application created the file that does not drag/drop?

Some applications assign file type in addition to using a file extension and this will influence whether drag drop works.

Can you upload the file that does not drag/drop correctly somewhere (make sure to first zip it by control-clicking and choosing "Make Archive" before uploading).

Best,

Edward
