Hey,

Last night was a great success. We raised over $900 and have plenty of materials left over to do a similar event in the spring. Thanks again so much for all of your help!

As a reminder, our final Habitat meeting of the semester with officer elections will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, December 11th at 9:15 p.m. in the Iowa Room (3rd floor) of the Memorial Union.

If you are interested in running for a position, you will be asked to give a small 1-2 minutes speech about yourself including why you want the position as well as any ideas or goals you have. If you have any questions about this don't hesitate to ask.

Adam, Gayle, and myself have been thinking lately about restructuring the leadership board to better fit the needs of the organization. If the chapter agrees on this tomorrow, we will begin the Spring 08 semester with the following positions:

President (Adam McCullough), President-Elect*, Vice President*, Treasurer*, Public Relations/Recruitment Director*, Fundraising Director*, Education Director*

* denotes to be elected

The President is in charge of leading the exec board as well as the chapter. They are responsible for handling all matters regarding the University in addition to Habitat International and Iowa Valley Habitat. The President-Elect would be the President's shadow and understudy to ensure a smooth transition each semester. The Vice President would be in charge of running weekly meetings. The treasurer is responsible for managing the chapter's budget and applying for funding. The Public Relations/Recruitment Director is in charge of bringing new members into the chapter throughout the semester as well as leading a committee which will advertise events. This director will lead a committee to handle the publicity of the chapter, including managing our website. The Fundraising Director is responsible for leading a committee which will bring in funds. This includes organizing events as well as acquiring donations from corporate sponsors. The Education Director is responsible for tying in the mission of Habitat into everything we do. This includes educating others on how to get involved with our chapter, Youth United, Iowa Valley's ReStore, house construction with Iowa Valley, or any additional affordable housing organization. Additionally, the purpose is to advocate the need for affordable housing and raise awareness of substandard housing in our community.

I encourage everyone to consider running for a position as this next semester is going to be very exciting, challenging, and rewarding. Adam has great ideas and the chapter is definitely headed in the right direction.

It has been a pleasure serving you all as President this past semester and I thank you for this opportunity. I would like to thank the fall 07 exec board for their work, as well as all members who contributed in making this semester a success. After looking back, we were able to make the largest donation to Iowa Valley in our chapter's history. Youth United received multiple thousand dollar grants from Bike & Build, State Farm, and Kohls. We have our 3rd youth-built home being dedicated this weekend for the Lome Adam family, and it wouldn't have been possible without your contributions both on and off the construction site. We got all sanctions removed from chapter, and are now looking at organizing habitat trips off campus.

The direction of this organization could not be better, and I hope you call come back next semester (with a friend) so even more people have the opportunity to partake in this amazing process of helping build homes for low income working families in need.

Thanks again and I hope to see you all tomorrow,
Chad
