I'm working frantically with Habitat International in Chicago to put together a spring break trip. As it currently stands, registration has been cut off but we've been given one last opportunity. I've looked at a few of the places and I believe Beaumont, TX is a great choice. The city is 80 mi east of Houston & 1 hr from Galveston. It's got a tropical climate, friendly people, great food, and is only 30 minutes from the beach. Lunches are provided.
Details:
Where: Beaumont, TX
When: March 15 - March 22 (I would plan for the entire week because of travel time)
Drive: Approx. 17 hrs. (1092 miles)
Costs:
Gas (covered by H4H)
Registration (Covered by H4H)
Administration Fee (Covered by H4H)
Hotel (Covered by H4H) Please let me know if you could stay with family or friends on the way down.
Housing in TX: (Covered by H4H)
Food (H4H would subsidize $50 but the rest would be paid by you)
Misc. Expenses: Covered by you.
Gas while in TX: Covered by you
One of the group members needs to be willing to use their vehicle.
According to this budget, each member's cost would be approximately $100, however, I recommend taking at least $150 to cover miscelaneous expenses. (For example, a trip to the beach) To offer some perspective, the UI chapter will be covering approximately $240 of each members trip!
I need a solid yes or no from at least five people by the beginning of next week. It's a great opportunity to travel over spring break and help families down south but we must act quickly. Please let me know if this is something you can commit to given the budget and time frame above. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to e-mail or call me.
Lets make this happen!
