That is the latest production release. I have a 32GB card and it works fine (I have a 128GB card as well and it works, but that's a different story).
I'd mail the card. Since it is PNY, it might be just a cheap card, and they cut corners.
Just plug it in to the uIEC and did a Control D it just says "? DEVICE NOT PRESENT ERROR IN 0"

I received it, reformatted it, but no dice.
Ingo, any ideas what I should debug first? I am pretty sure it
has a valid FAT23 partition and MBR on it, but I fdisked it in
Linux to be sure and formatted it there as well. I can make an
image of the raw disk if needed
