To learn the Boe-Bot in depth the entire book has a lot of good
information. However, in order to learn the basics as quickly as
possible, some key chapters and activities are as follows:

Chapter 1:
Activities #2 through #5

Chapter 2:
All Activities
Omit filling out Table 2-1

Chapter 3:
All Activities
Omit the Advanced Topic: Graphing Pulse Width vs. Rotational
Velocity

Chapter 4:
Activities #1 though #5
Special attention should be paid to activity #4

Chapter 5:
All Activities
This chapter is for understanding basic sensing operation

Chapter 6:
Not required, but can help for understanding more about how
sensors work and the code required. It also goes over some basic
circuit analysis which can be very useful.

Chapters 7 and 8 and are where the most important information is
given. In these chapters you will learn how IR sensors work in
following lines and how to locate another Boe-Bot. The competition is
based off of these two functions. Chapter 7 deals with navigating
with IR sensors and IR transmitters (headlights). Activity #1 is
important for building the circuit on the Boe-Bot. The rest of
chapter 7 gives good information on how to use the IR sensors for
navigation, which will be paramount for both the line following and
sumo competitions.

Chapter 8, activities 1 and 2 deal with how to actually locate and
distance objects from the Boe-Bot. These chapters also show how to
follow or "shadow" another Boe-Bot. This will be where the most
important information for the sumo-bot competition is located.
Activity 3 shows how to program the Boe-Bot to follow a line which is
obviously very important for the line following competition.

All of the chapters have questions, exercises, and projects at the
end, which are not necessary. If you really want a good in depth
understanding, I would suggest doing these, however, it is not
important for learning the basics. This being said, there are a few
projects related to the competition that I would recommend doing.
Project #2 at the end of chapter 7, and project #1 and #2 at the end
of chapter 8, are of key importance. Especially take a look at
project #2 at the end of chapter 8. This concept may be very
important when it comes to the bonus round.

Good luck everyone and have fun! I hope this helps!
