One thing we should all push for at every opportunity is a periodic
COLA (cost-of-living adjustment) for all UI retirees. The last one
granted to us by the UI Board of Directors was around the year 2000
(for about 1.25%) as I recall. We should be able to get a COLA at
least once every 10 years, but it is certainly not automatic. These
are not the best of economic times, but we should be due a COLA in the
near future. The best time and place to push for this is at the
Company's Annual Meeting of Shareowners usually held in mid-May in
recent years at the Quinnipiac University Law School Auditorium
located in the Mt. Carmel section of Hamden.

I would certainly be in favor of advocating a COLA. An adjustment of
1.25% every 10 years is almost ridiculous. We should try for something
like 10 or 15%.

I couldn't agree more. Since many of us live elsewhere than
Connecticut, perhaps we could send letters to the Board to be
presented at the Company's Annual Meeting of Shareowners. Does anyone
have any experience or knowledge as to how we should proceed?
