Hey friends and fellow Octavia Lovers!

We are building a pattern and making it visible! Ayana Jamieson and Adrienne Maree Brown are starting an Octavia Butler Legacy Network! At different times we've all shared our love and deep connection to Butler's work and in an effort to amplify and celebrate that connection, we wanted to make sure folks new about each other and each other's work.

From Ayana:

I am enclosing some links to stuff that I hope you'll pass on to folks that you think might be interested. Adrienne and I created this Octavia E. Butler's Legacy Network Information Form so we can start to collect information on how big the existing network is. We call this "making the Pattern visible," the same way Olamina is on the road and seeing which people might benefit and contribute to Earthseed's future communities. At this stage in OEB Legacy Network, we are reaching out to a few special people like you that we already know have a connection with Octavia Butler's legacy.
We have a couple events that are going to take place between now and the time Adrienne and I get together in July. You may have seen them on Facebook. Emergent Strategy Book Clubs in Los Angeles/Pasadena and New York. here is a link to the FB Octavia Butler Birthday Celebration.
For now, you can find us on facebook, Twitter and Tumblr @OebLegacy.

So excited!

Additionally, folks in the academy under the direction of Dr. Tarshia Stanely are creating a OEB Society! She says:
We discussed a mission statement and concluded that our primary goals are keeping OEB's legacy alive by keeping her works in print, encouraging Butler teaching, research, and scholarship, and of course encouraging students to read Butler. Additionally, we felt a part of the mission is to stimulate cultural conversation about, and to help develop an appreciation for, speculative fiction written by people of color in general. The final form of the statement will be on the website.

The website isn't up yet.

So please spread the word to folks! Isn't this awesome?! Let's get it!!!

All you touch you change,
