Sci Fi geeks! if you have anything- clips, images, etc- from your favorite sci fi fandom that deal with/related to health, disability, and/or chronic illness, can you let me know/forward/spam my wall with them between now and friday? I really need your help gathering for this presentation since my time available to do this has gotten cut in half because I have to go back w/o internet. And lots of geeks on here.
I was supposed to work on this tonight but my brother needs me to go home so I’m freaking out because this is due friday- which is the next time I’ll have internet access.
It’s for an AMC presentation on health, tech, and disability in the future and draws strongly on sci fi and speculative fiction as the basis.
Here’s our thing from the AMC Session listing (use “find” for “Soul in the Machine”):
This session will take a creative and participatory approach to the mirrored question: what are the health impacts of technology on the human body, and what is the future of technology in healing? Participants will experience media drawn from science fiction, fantasy, as well as current medical science, representing diverse perspectives on the future of trauma, illness, wellness, and care. From this shared experience, we will enter into a conversation bridging our cultural perceptions and visions of health and healing with an analysis of the relationship between civilization, technology, and oppression. Using collective storytelling, movement, and meditation, we will co-create strategies and “tools” to mindfully and more intuitively connect with our technology and the world around us.
