Hello Everyone, We will be having a great presentation on Wednesday the 18th at OC Tanner. Please join the conversation with Andy Lawrence - CTO of xStream Technology LLC. Details Below:

Andy Lawrence - BIO 
Computer programmer with about 30 years experience. CS graduate from BYU, 1988. Expertise in file systems, disk utilities, and general data management. Strongest language C++. 
Currently CTO of xStream Technology LLC. Building a new object-based data management system. 
Past companies/projects: Novell (file system drivers); PowerQuest (PartitionMagic, Drive Image); Raytheon (custom file system); Kaseya (on-line backup to the cloud); Move Networks (network support for video streaming); Adaptive Computing (job scheduling on massive supercomputing clusters).

Discussion: 
We will talk about the various data management systems available today (file systems, RDBMS, NoSQL data stores, cloud, distributed systems, etc.) and discuss the "silo problem". Andy will have a brief discussion about each system's strengths and weaknesses and how difficult it is to migrate data between systems and coordinate data management between them as well. He'll introduce his project briefly as an approach to solving what he sees as the most serious problems out there.
