Once again, we bid you a warm welcome to the DAILY DIGEST!

Today the "Essential Era" blog entries were due, and the remaining 4
players delivered in spades.

RITCHEY
...wrote about the original Star Wars era for her challenge entry, and
her three pop culture items were the original Star Wars movies.
Ritchey's entry has been posted for more than 12 hours and it still has
only one comment. We think that's probably because readers are
surprisingly underwhelmed by this post. Unlike most of Ritchey's posts,
it lacked the passion and personality we've come to expect from her,
and the video wasn't well crafted. Definitely not one of Ritchey's
stronger sumbissions. Lucky for her, though, her original power
alliance will probably keep her safe through this elimination.

MIMI
...wrote about how the "giddy consumerism, laissez faire attitudes,
hard partying, [and] excess" that defined NYC changed after the
defining moment of our current consciousness: 9/11/2001. As she says,
our collective response to 9/11 was an expression of popular culture,
and it led to the war, increasingly xenophobic immigration policy, and
a socially-sanctioned culture of hate and fear. In response, she says,
the world has become angrier toward American corporate monoculture,
demonstrating against McDonalds and the like. Her eulogy of the "the
irrevocable sadness of this once exuberant city that I love, that I
desperately want to call my home" was affecting and personal.

JAMES
...made an exciting and refreshingly unnostalgic decision in his post
and wrote about 2004-2005 and his experience in Taipei. We love that
you decided to write about the here and now, James, and we think the
post is great too. The pop culture events James chose fit nicely into
the categories of Art, Cinema, Music, and Literature. It gave us a
sneak peek into pop culture in Taiwan right now. We didn't find any
hidden videos or music in his entry this time, but there are tons of
links for readers who want to find out more. For the purposes of the
game, James probably needs to win immunity to avoid getting the killer
votes this time around. This post is very good, but is it good enough
to beat out the other posts? Sit tight and we'll find out all too
soon...

LYOVA
...came in last with a superb entry about Russian punk music, in
particular, the scene at the Jarocin music festival and the riots in
1994 that ended it. Lyova's entry was informative and engaging, and it
was jam packed with awesome music we've never heard before. Here are
our favorite phrases from Lyova's entry:

"massive hardcore, full power and total throttle!"
"enjoyed punk music to the oblivious point!"
"Awesome people. Awesome music. Awesome struggles."
"urban thug, which we call 'sportswear' "

It's terribly late, but we're still waiting with bated breath to hear
the judges' verdict on who will win immunity. Can we just say, we wish
all of you could win immunity? What an exciting final four! This game
has really brought out the best from around the world. Nevertheless, as
they say, only one can be the (dramatic pause) ULTIMATE BLOGGER, so the
show must go on.

And with that, good night, and we'll see you tomorrow.
